I'm moving my NightForce NXS 1-4X24 from my LMT .308 MWS to my Middy .556 and I want to possibly get a NF 2.5X10x32

What are your experiences with Mounts , Reticle you suggest? Who has the best deals on NighForce ?

My range only goes out to 200 yards but I have access to ranges that go to 600 yards. I have the standard 16" Chrome lined barrel but I may get a 20"SS 5r barrel in the near future.

I just read about the Valdada 1x10 so I'm a little confused :jester:

I appreciate the help

I recently got the 2.5x10x32 mil/mil midot ZeroStop for my SDM.
Great scope couldn't be happier.
Looking at a F1 now for another rifle but a little shell shocked at the price.

I wish I could give you a compelling reason for the mildot but it just looked like the simplest one. It appears to be the most popular too.

Mounts, I used a Bobro one piece but any of the quality one-piece will work great ~ ADM, Larue. My upper is monolithic so I did not need the extended version. YMMV on this one.

If you want new there are plenty of places but the pricing is pretty tightly controlled. I used SportOptics (http://www.sportoptics.com/nightforce-rifle-scopes.aspx) but Europtics (http://www.eurooptic.com/nightforce-rifle-scopes.aspx), CSTactical (http://www.cstactical.com/Nightforce/OPTICS/Rifle-Scopes/Nightforce-Optics?vmcchk=1) are all well known Nightforce dealers.

If you want to save some money just keep an eye out on Snipers Hide Optics for Sale section ~ you won't find any better accumulation of quality scopes for sale.
SWFA's sample list would be my second choice ~ unfortunately for me they are in Texas and costs me 8.25% more.

My NF on my Mega SDM

Very nice set up...

Thanks for taking the time to reply. That's pretty much what I was thinking about getting. The Mildot reticle with zerostop seems to be the heat.

I have the low velocity model and I like it quite a bit. I got mine from Optics Planet. Its been a good scope for me.

I was wondering about the Velocity reticles. They look very interesting. I think NF charges a premium for them but I'm not positive.

very nice rifle

I don't think they charge more for them.
When I got my NF I didn't have any load or type of shooting in mind ~ so since I couldn't determine any of the specifications > I opted for the midot reticle.
They used to have an online calculator but it is temp disabled and you have to call them.
I think if you are a hunter or know your load and relative distance then this would be a good reticle.
YMMV

I like to continually change up my target location and ffp for practice and this glass has simply proven to be one helluva optic for dominating a large area of real estate and makes shit just so much more easy and thereby means I spend far more time reading wind, environmental disturbances and personal technique, rather than doping my damn optic's all day long.

FFP, I thought the scopes were SFP?

I see a lot of different mounts. Some look like standard SPR and some look like extended mounts.
I think the OP asked about mounts and I am curious as well. What is the real world eye relief and how much variance is there when the power is increased or decreased?

Can anyone tell me about the eye relief and how sensitive this scope is to eye position?

Also why did you choose the mount you did?

I do not care about brand... I am talking about length and height.

On the 2.5-10x32 they list the eye relief at 3.7". Personally since using mine I haven't noticed a difference on the different power settings to even matter. I went with an extended unimount that sits 1.375" high. I also set it far enough forward so that I still have clearance for my flip ups and easy access to the charging handle. I hope this is the info you're looking for.

From what I've seen and heard, all the places are going to run the same prices if not close. I went through www.sportoptics.com since they were the only ones that had what I wanted in stock. Best thing is to find what you want and see who has it on hand. It sure is a hard scope to find though. By the way I went with the lv reticle. Good luck.

I shot mine in the local 3-Gun match today and as always it performed as expected. This one has the NP-R2 (MOA) reticle in a LaRue Lt-104 mount. Choices, choices, but for simplicity the LV reticle *might* be a good choice for .223 or .308.
MAP rules apply - there are no smoking deals.

Of the three online dealers I spoke to by phone when researching, the most helpful was Sport Optics. They got my business as a result.

*ETA - In SFP the reticle is calibrated for 10x only - so if you plan to do much shooting at less than 10X, the LV reticle *might not* be the best choice.

Well.. I just placed a backorder with EuroOptic for a Mildot reticle version with ZeroStop.... 4-6 weeks but they were very cool to deal with.

Thanks for all the suggestions and feedback.
