This is my first set of DD rails. I got them in the mail yesterday and after I installed them, I wiped them down with a oily rag. After I wiped it down I noticed that the Flag and Daniel Defense markings kind of wiped away. Its hard to see in the pic but there is very shallow engraving of the flag and the lettering but the white filling is gone.

I have never had that happen on any of my DD rails. And some have been sprayed with Gunscruber.

If their genuine DD product I don't believe that should be happening. mine have been hit by brake cleaner and other cleaning solvents and look fine.

Genuine markings are sublimated into the aluminum.

I purchased these from a very respected vendor so I doubt very much they are fake. The T markings do not rub off. Like I said its hard to see in the pic but you can see where the lettering and flag is imprinted into the rail.

Are you sure they wiped away? On one of my SR15 uppers where it has the logo and the model, it's quite dull. When I cleaned the gun with that Slip cleaner, the logo and model were the brightest white they'd ever been. When I wiped it down with an oily rag, they went dull again.

I don't normally clean my guns like that, but did since I was trading it, so it wasn't something I had noticed before. Give that a try and see what happens.

Oil can darken laser engravings on aluminum.

The markings shouldn't be painted on, but bleached with a CO2 laser IIRC. This is part of the anodizing process on the rail and shouldn't come off. Maybe the oil you used recolored the bleaching and it now looks similar to the rest of the rail.

It should not come off if its genuine...its etched into the rail...oil can darken it...but it should wipe right off and expose the markings again

Oil can darken laser engravings on aluminum.

This; the engravings are not filled with anything it is just bare aluminum that gets stained by the oil. Gun scrubber or brake cleaner should get them back into shape.

Here is an older pic of my DD rail. It's dirty and dry (no oil).

I have had the markings on my BCM BCG apparently "disappear" but it was only due to lube and carbon mixing together to hide the markings. After a wipe down, markings were good as new.

What about the logo on the upper?

I've hit the BCM logo on my 20" upper with brake cleaner. Liberally, too--I had a lot of Krylon to take off. It stayed, the Krylon dissolved like soap in water.

What about the logo on the upper?
All of the other logos and markings are just fine.

Im personally not a fan of all the markings but its probably due to the cleaner.

Markings on my 12" Lite Rail are also fading and it is also not a fake.
