6920 barrel date quote question

Does the barrel date stamp (05/07) on a 6920 (bought new in 2008 with Diemaco upper) reflect the manufacturing date of the barrel only or the whole upper assembly?

Just the barrel.

Thanks. That makes sense. I was told otherwise by a local smith here that the barrel date stamp was the mfg date of the upper assembly.

as already said it's the mfg date of the barrel.
usually it's close to the mfg date of the whole rifle/upper.

colt rifles are shipped in a plastic bag (aka birth bag)...there's a date on it and that's the mfg date of the whole rifle
