Our class was held at the C2 Shooting Center in Virginia Beach. This was my first time shooting there. It was good to have the 100 yard range to ourselves. The training ranges at C2 are set-up for classes such as this one, so things worked out overall in terms of the facilities.

Equipment were various AR Mfrs, and most students were using Aimpoint sights. One student went "old school" and used iron sights the whole day. Another student used an FNH FS2000(?) "Space Gun" as I would like to call it. Very interesting what FNH makes. Chris worked very closely to figure out how to best operate that platform during the class.

Safety is always point No.1 when attending classes, and "Hans" made all students aware of his safety policies with respects to the carbine. Proper carbine handling was performed by each student the entire day.

The class instructions were all about fundamentals of shooting the AR. We began with group discussions about the various Mfrs of ARs, disassembly of the AR, cleaning & lubing, types of lube to use, and re-assembly. Our first rounds downrange were for zeroing the AR starting at 25 yards, then made final adjustments at 100 yards.

After lunch, we went into reloading drills, and had some discussion on magazines types, magazine carriers/pouches, and explanations about loading to 28-rounds.

Afternoon drills re-enforced our understanding of what the POA/POI is for the AR at various distances from the target. The drills also incorporated the various shooting positions (prone, kneeling, sitting, standing) and how to best shoot the AR from them. We finished off with a little bit of friendly competition at the end of the day.

I believe all the students enjoyed themselves during the class, and Hans shared his knowledge and expereince with the AR very openingly. I had a hard time with getting my AR zeroed in, but I got some additional trigger control dry-fire practice with Hans during the lunch break that helped me calm down and get on target with my hits. I know that for me my confidence level increased as we performed the afternoon drills.

With respects to the operations of firearms, this class (and the pistol class from the day before) really re-enforce to me how important it is to spend quaility time off the range with dry-fire and trigger control. Hans suggested to me specific drills I can perform that will help me improve my skillset.

I enjoyed shooting with my fellow students during this class. A good time was had by all. I also want to express my thanks to Hans for his patience with helping me get zeroed in. I welcome my fellow classmates to add their notes and observations about this class to this AAR.

This class is about the fundamentals of the AR. If you own an AR, this is the class you need to gain the knowledge and skillset in order to operate the AR effectively.

Sounds like it was a great class. I wish I could have made it. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to the next one. Thanks for the AAR. Did anybody take any pics?

Nice pictures Chris! I really enjoyed the class. I now have plenty of drills to practice at home and the range. A shot timer is now on my short list of things to buy.

That timer really gets in your head doesn't it? I was hoping to help ease you into it by starting even the non-timed drills with it. I guess it takes some getting used to.

Get a good one. I have had good experience with the CED 7000 and the Pact Club Timer III.

Whichever the timer don't get so wrapped around the clock that you start getting sloppy just to make yourself quicker. Use it as a tool to get better.

And thanks for being such a great class.
