OK, I know, made in freakin' China. I just need something to get my gun in and out of the house without prying eyes snooping in my business. Doesn't need to be bomb proof, just enough to get my gun to the range. Only $50, seems like a good deal, can't see spending $100 plus on something that will only get used for the range and maybe occasional camping trips.

Anyone try one out yet?
In your opinion is the coyote descrete compared to the black ( I hate black and want an earth tone)?
Should I burn in hell for buying something from China?:suicide2:

Looks like a pretty neat little case although I haven't seen one in person. I carry my sbr to the range in one of the larue cases broken down. I will say that ctd case is a good deal cheaper.

A friend gave me a case from CTD, the fabric is all frayed out all the way around the zipper, the velcro wont stick to itself and the material is really grainy. I would save the 40 bucks towards something good

First, country of origin is not the sole indicator of quality. While I prefer US made goods whenever possible, goods can be manufactured anywhere if the importer imposes QC standards.

Unfortunately, CTD is not one of them. You won't get what you pay for.

Hold on to the $50 you'd spend on that case and get closer to something decent. It might work as a back and forth bag, but you should not rely upon it for anything important. Zippers, stitching, hardware, etc all should be suspect.

Agreed. I've admired a MOE buttstock at the range of a gentlemen who had his zipper start to unzip on his CTD bag. Not something you want happening in your driveway or a parking lot. Unless your neighbors are so ProGun to the point ARs falling on the sidewalk is acceptable.

If you want a cheap case, watch for the Midway rifle case when it's on sale. I believe I payed $14 for mine - and it's often my bag of choice. Carry it with the magazine pockets towards your body and it looks like a soft guitar case. It's nothing fancy but quality of stitching, material, and zippers are quite good. I just wish they made the big-ass Midway logo optional.

Their competition range bag is a steal when it's on sale for $39 too. Huge and has everything well thought out. I'll post a review one day.

I can't speak to the country of Origin. I'll check later. Always buy American whenever possible though.

Not on sale currently, but I'd still pay that for one.

Looks like a nice case. You did notice it's a breakdown case? As in you'll have to separate your upper and lower unless you have an SBR.

Forgot I posted here earlier, but the Midway flyer has their "tactical" version of their rifle case on sale. Good deal too. I may pick one up with an upcoming order for the extra room. Can't have too many range bags or soft cases IMO.

Buy based on your needs, but if this isn't a work gun - $140 for a breakdown case seems a little steep. If you just got the gun, the extra $100 would probably be better spent on ammo. Consider if you'll need a good hardcase down the road as well for any airline travel.

Just my $0.02. Let us know what you get and how you like it. Have a good 4th, brother.

I've never thought all these "discreet" cases were discreet at all. Most of them are black or coyote nylon with pouches and velcro all over them. Plus, they're long rectangular cases that look like gun gear.

Get a tennis racket bag for simple transport from house to car. They're dirt cheap and no one ever wants to see inside like they do if you have a guitar case on your shoulder.

+1

Kind of makes it stand out more than "blend in"

Consumers, and the industry as well, confuse "discreet" with "clandestine".

The standard for "discreet" is "less distinct". The current crop of those cases generally accomplish only that. They still look like they could be a gun case, but lack some of the more obvious tells. The problem is that they don't look like anything else in particular.

One of the greater weaknesses of the current crop of "discreet" cases is the limited availability of non-mil colors. Depending on your venue and application, black/OD/khaki/tan/coyote aren't at all "discreet".

What most people seem to want is more of a "clandestine" case to avoid detection of the gun altogether. Use of sports, music, and tool cases fit this role, but are not purpose built for the application.

To be effective, whether discreet or clandestine, the case must look like it belongs in the venue it's in. The more non-permissive the venue, and/or the greater need to elude detection, the more critical it is. Use that as your guide.

Dang thanks guys. Lot's of options and great suggestions.

That is a great deal on the eagle cases, I may get a full sized case. Is that just a special or closeout price? Should I order soon or miss out kinda thing? Always when I'm broke, my dog has an expensive trip to the vet this week, vet bills are getting crazy expensive.

I do own hard cases that can be locked for most of my guns for long trips. I also was thinking about a guitar case. The problem is , I play in a band and am just as worried about potential theives watching me bring valuble instruments into the house as much as my guns. Guns and guitars are the only things of value I own.

The takedown cases just don't look like much of a gun case to me. Seems like most would think that it is just some sort of luggage. This is why the ctd model cought my eye, almost looks like my work bag, just a few inches longer.

I heard Eagle is buying out, or is being bought out, BlackHawk!.

I think this is stuff that is or is going to be discontinued.
I heard natchez bought all of the discontiued items from Eagle.
These prices are only until they run out......and at these prices the cases will run out pretty fast.

I got the Castle Rock case also, a few days ago. I got it in black and I don't think it screams 'weapon' at all.

I've heard this said several times, yet I've carried guitar and banjo gig bags all over the world (with guitars and banjos in them), and nobody (apart from airport security) has ever asked to look inside. I *have* been asked to play a tune, but it's easy to politely decline. Besides, if you're only carrying it from house to car and back, who's going to accost you for a look-see?

FWIW, I use a gig bag designed for a short-scale tenor banjo. A carbine fits nicely, and the external pockets hold four 30 round mags with plenty of room for other odds-and-ends. As an added bonus, it was was a freebie that was just taking up space in my closet.

I'll also submit that a guy carrying a musical instrument while wearing street clothes doesn't look remotely suspicious, unlike a guy carrying a tennis racquet bag while wearing blue jeans (unless he's also carrying a gym bag).

Bottom line: whatever floats your boat is cool.

I heard Eagle is buying out, or is being bought out, BlackHawk!.

Eagle was bought by ATK, which also owns Blackhawk. ATK also owns a lot of other companies. Lots of reorganization and related things afoot.

If you have opportunity to buy legacy Eagle gear, do so now.
