Guys,
Me and the Bride are about to start building a house on a few acres this summer/fall and we've been leaning toward a geothermal unit. We have several acres of good flat field to trench the pipework out around the house. I also have access to a pipe welder. My Best Friend does heating and air and says the actual unit is about $2,000 more than a conventional unit, and the 2 of us will be doing the install. My plans are to rent or borrow a trencher or backhoe and do that work myself. We plan on doing a closed loop system, with a 3 1/2 ton unit for the house and roughly 500 ft of pipe for every ton.
Anyone who has experience with these units have any suggestions, comments, advice, pitfalls....it would be greatly appreciated.
