Just ordered 4 cases as soon as I got my email from Widener's.

I don't know the general consensus is on Israeli ammo here but I've shot about 2K rnds without issue or noticeable difference from LC.

Good 5.56 ammo. I went through a bunch back in the day that it was readily available and inexpensive. I recall some of the tards getting their undies in a bundle because of the annealing discoloration.

I'm such a sucker...just ordered 4 more cases for a total of 8. The shipping delay on the website is not really a delay at all. Ordered yesterday, shipped today and delivery date is Thursday. That's just as fast as my original order last week.

I agree. I just got my 2 cases today and it is top notch M193. Great ammo for the price.

This does seem to be good ammo. I haven't chronographed any, or any of the old IMI from years ago either. I have not yet had one bad issue with either of it.

The price has been up and down. I bought a butt load a few months ago when the price was good, but not this good. Damn.
I'd like to have an extra 12k but can't use the money for buying ammo right now.

.....aaaaaand cases 4-8 just arrived.....gotta stop this bullshit.

Brass looks clean. I know some (not here) have expressed problems with corrosion on the brass years ago, but this ammo shows none of that.

I really can't believe I ordered 9,600 rnds over 2 orders and 2 wks and they still have it for .28/rnd. Didn't we hear all this stuff about ammo going up 20-30% in June/July? I realize BCM et al stuff is out of stock alot, but it does come back in for the same price. I thought ammo was going up and going to get scarce....(?)

Not that I want to see it, but where is this huge ammo price increase and why was it predicted?

TOrrock
07-21-11, 13:49
Unless I'm mistaken, IMI is the only foreign ammo that conforms to USGI M193 and M855 specs, and is the only foreign ammo that is approved substitute standard for the US military.

Back in 2004, the US had to stop issuing IMI ammo in Iraq and Afghanistan due to local sensibilities.

If it's XM193 or XM855, it's been rejected, for whatever reason, from US military service.

Templar I believe you're correct about the IMI on both counts.
I can't find anything in writing about it at the moment.

I really need to see if there is anyway to squeeze some more of this ammo into my budget. It would be nice to stock up on the next 2 years worth of 5.56 ammo with this IMI M193.

ETA: Just got back form the range. I put 150 round of the IMI through my MK18 and as expected the ammo is awesome. Minimal flash, accuracy at 100 yards was within the confines of a 10.5" AR with a 3x ACOG (about a 3" spread), it is very clean burning as well. I think I will pick up another 2400 rounds.

That's correct.

Long story short, a liberal Democrat from Hawaii got his shorts in a knot over the US Military using Israeli made ammo in OIF/OEF. As a result, it got pulled and relegated to training use only.

The end result us the happy, war free world we have today.

I also seem to remember a rumor running around that IMI used pig fat on the projectiles during the loading process. Whether true or not, the local insurgent population was offended by the thought of being shot by a bullet coated in pig fat.

Our powers that be decided we must be politically correct and not offend the local beliefs when we face shoot insurgents. This was also part of the reason the IMI M855 was to be used for training only while in theater during the 2004 time frame.

Don't know if this was true or not. I seriously doubt IMI was using pig fat. I could see some bored individuals joking about the concept on the internet and some congressmen running with it as if it were true.

All of my IMI ammo shooting has been with previous lots. Both the M193 and M855 loadings were great. They do exactly what you would/should expect M193 and M855 to do.

If I had the cash right now, I'd be stocking up. I'd buy it with confidence, and my experience dealing with Weideners has been good also.

As the OP and the owner of 9600 rnds of this shit...I'm pleased.

Clean, accurate and well priced. Pig fat would be a bonus but not a deal breaker.

Of course a fair amount of the 9600 is gone...sweet, sweet bacon-y gone... :-)

Mine just shipped today. yay

So is this stuff factory seconds like the federal XM, or does it pass all inspections?
What about other M193/M855? Is Privi and whatever else is out there factory rejects, or just surplus?

Beat Trash
07-27-11, 19:16
The IMI loadings are not factory seconds. It's first run ammunition.

The Lack City Arsenal ammunition is factory seconds, hence the "X" because it's illegal for Lake City to sell first run US Military ammunition to the civilian market.

As IMI is not the US military, this law does not apply.

i think i remember a post on here about bs being regurgitated even though it has been dis proven. xm193 is first run ammo. now it may or may not meet the mil spec but who the hell knows what mil spec is. all i can say is that i shoot it almost exclusively and i love it, although i only shoot 5000 or so rounds a year. i dont have any experience with the imi but all i have read is good. i am just from the if it aint broke dont break it crowd. so i stick with the lake city stuff. please people stop saying shit that isnt true and if you dont know what you are talking about.

There is still the 62gr available not as good of a deal though. $379 + $21.76 shipping to VA for a total of $400.76 (~$0.33 a round).

I guess that isn't bad for 62gr 5.56.

Anyone know of any other good deals on 55gr??

Unfortunately my local range doesn't allow steel core ammo. May pick some up for outdoor lessons but I can pick up other M193 for cheaper. The IMI 193 was good stuff though...I only have about 1000 rounds left :(

Yeah....I'm considering that.
I was hoping someone knew of a place that had a secret stash of it.

I may end up with the PPU M193. I've shot alot of the PPU. I've found the IMI to have better accuracy. Not by much, but better.

While my religious education is a bit lacking, I'm pretty sure pig fat is no more "Kosher" for Jewish people that it would be for Muslims.

I hear guys around here joke about rubbing their bullets in bacon before loading into their mags, but I seriously doubt the Israelis would be involved in mass processing of pig fat.

I asked a buddy of mine at work who is Jewish, he thought the idea was retarded, funny, but retarded.

Anyway, this seems to be the best deal on M855 there is, and Molon's testing seems to confirm the IMI stuff is top notch, I'm jumping on a case today, thanks for the tip.
