Tried doing the search function on thins, but some how it wasn't working. I have a friend who has two barrels for his Glock in .40S&W. He bought an additional barrel in 9mm to train with the cheaper round. I am asking with the S&W M&P line can do the same: barrel and magazines?

Yep, from .40 to 9mm it's doable w/new barrel and mags. Check out G&R tactical for availability.

Any problems with extraction going from .40 to 9mm? Since the breech face is larger on the .40, the extractor sits a little further out, and it is thicker on the hook for the .40 case rim. I would think that extraction might be a problem.

None with the Storm Lake conversion barrel in my M&P 40 compact.

From what I understand, it isn't an issue.

And is the OP asking about doing a conversion barrel ie Storm Lake or Bar-Sto or picking up a factory 9mm barrel and dropping that in?

I've heard of people using the factory 9mm barrel AND .40 mags and having it work, the problem was the slide didn't hold open and didn't fed the last round.

I am just asking in general about doing the swap back and forth so I can train with 9mm (cost) and run with .40. I guess it can be done but with a conversion kit.

I don't have an M&P, but I am looking for a pistol to run in 3-gun, plus practical defense stuff. My neighbor with his Glock and two different barrels had me thinking. (single stack 1911 gets old quick on a target rich stage.

Factory 9 mm barrel WITH 9mm magazine works quite well in my M&P 40. That thread on TOS was helpful.

I just purchased a storm lake 9mm barrel for my M&P .40.
But I realized I didn't select the "conversion" barrel. Does anyone know if I will have an issue or are the barrels the same?
Any one have experience with standard vs conversion?

I have been using a 9mm factory barrel in my M&P 40c for a while now and have had no problems (1500 + rounds). I just swap out the barrels and use the same magazines (they work fine). Good Luck.

Just note that the barrel hood is smaller in width on the 9mm and will not be supported as designed. Yes the 9mm will fit in the 40 slide but not the other way around.

I just run a complete 9mm slide on the 40 frame and vice versa. Guess I am a fan of running them as designed.
