We had a great two days of AK madness courtesy of LAV and his special guest AI, Ken Hackathorn. Twenty shooters per day enjoying the good Sergeant's Avtomat.

Day 1 started with a quick brief and intros. After that we got our zeros checked and jumped into drills. Larry was always stressing accuracy which many of us were lacking. We also had numerous gun issues including a couple go completely south. Fortunately I had a couple of spare loaners and the guys were back in the fight. One good lesson learned was when bending your AK safety away from the receiver, don't get too carried away. One guy did and when he flipped the lever back up or safety on, he over-shot the receiver cover and tripped the sear firing the rifle. Luckily he had the muzzle down and put the round in the dirt 10 inches from his left foot. I wish he would have had a piece of coal stuck in his ass, cuz it surely would have been a diamond when that happened and his spincter snapped shut. We ran the walk back drill and yours truly made it to 150 yards with an iron sighted under fold 47. Who says AK are inaccurate. We were shooting 12 inch steel plates. On the second day one of the guys won the walk back with my iron sighted 74 at 200 yards. That gun is a freaking laser! Leave it to a Marine to get the most out of it, Semper Fi bro! After the day of shooting we ended by putting about 2000 rounds through the PKM on steel at 200 yards. I'm not sure which weighs more. The PKM fully kitted or my son soaked in sweat. Regardless that old girl threw him around like a rag doll and he loved every minute of it! Life's good when you have uncles with full auto and Dad's ammo locker to draw from.

Day 2 started off with rain all morning. So we did the day in reverse. Everyone took turns with the PKM putting another 2000 rounds through it. The rain did a nice job of cooling the overheating barrels. Larry and Ken did a great job of teaching everyone about the in and outs of the PKM and AK. After the rain quit and sun came out we headed to the range for AK's. It was West Africa hot at that point but fun none the less.

All in all a great two days spent with good people. I have to give a shout out to LAV, Hack, Bill, Geno and the rest of the guys who helped me make the class happen. Everyone learned a lot, ate good and had an overall excellent adventure.

I know I'm leaving a lot out, hopefully some of the guys will jump in and add to my report.

Good AAR; you did a great job pulling this all together & everyone I know had a great time & learned a lot. Seeing what we did & listening to Ken & Larry, it's becoming quite clear that as they pointed-out, the 2 biggest problems with the AK are guns built improperly (factory & kit) & sights not zero'd properly.

Good job!
Stay tough & watch your six.

Well we're going to try to do another one next summer. Once I know Larry's schedule for 2012, I'll see how it messes with the club calendar. Then we'll go from there.

Next time we'll add some RPK's and Krinks into the mix. Maybe even add some more belt fed goodness in the form of a M60 or M249.
