I thought I'd do the 2 is 1 idea with my G19 and picked a new one up recently. Both guns have the newer dip extractor. The 1st is a PSU ser# the new one is an RRU. The 1st wasn't shot much as I never get to shoot over the past year.
I decided to pick up 2000 rds and start making an effort to get out more. So I brought the new gun and wanted to see if any problems occurred with it since its a newer gen 3 and they've been having issues. I was able to put 100 rds Federal Champion and 100 Federal AE. Both 115 grain.
Only mods to the gun are Vickers mag release, pre-ban mags (New York) and Ameriglo Hacks. Most ejection was to the 4 o'clock area but some were over my head, straight up or around 5 o'clock but weak. Only issues were me hitting the slide release not allowing the slide to lock back on the last round. This happened six times. I hope its just user error.
Not much of a test but I will put 400 rds through it at the Falla Carbine class I have next week. Will report back if there is interest in me doing so.

Good plan. Odds are in your favor. The 7 recent production 9mm's with that extractor we have here are all running great.

I intentionally picked up a Gen 3 with the dipped extractor just to see if there was a problem for me,and to try to solve it in my own way. I really don't have enough rounds through it to make a good decision yet,but so far there have been no extraction problems, and cases are going out well to my right ,about 4 o'clock.
I don't think I'll really know anything for sure until I get at least a thousand through it,which I'm working on.
Meantime,I'm still carrying one of my Gen 2's that are well proven.
I hope this one works out.

Both of my Gen 3 guns have the "dip" extractor & I had 3 to the forehead during the first 100 rounds of115 gr. 9mm Federal Champion through one of them. I assumed it was either a break in issue or the ammo and it hasn't happened since.

Good to hear.

My g19 had a few issues with locking back during the first 100 rounds

Forgive my ignorance, what is a "dip" extractor? I'm still running an old Gen 2 G19. The G19 is probably the best size/capacity/shootability/carryability pistol ever.

New style extractor that is coming on the newer 9mm glock pistols. Some people seem to think it is a source of malfunctions but I have yet to see any hard evidence that this is the case.

My recently purchased G19 with serial # prefix RTA, has 511 rounds through it so far with no issues. I did get one piece of brass to the top of my head during the 77 rounds fired at my last range session, but that's to be expected. I'm pretty happy with it so far.

I've just been looking into all this stuff about Gen 4 extractors in newer Gen 3 guns. My Glock 19 was test fired 12/23/09 with NYA prefix....and it has that dip extractor. So....apparently those style extractors have been going into Gen 3's for a bit longer than just late 2010 production? Mine has no problems, never has, but I still find it interesting that it was made in 09 and has that dip extractor.

Are the extraction problems more prevalent with 115 gr. ammo?
Seems I heard that somewhere,maybe here,just don't remember.

I'm using Fed 147gr FMJ and some RA9T that that I normally carry.

Fired just about 250 rds at this weeks Falla carbine class. A couple more fail to lock backs that then stopped happening. No brass to the head or face, no stoppages. The gun was filled with sand and was dry as hell because of it. Magazines were also filled with beach like sand
