Precision? I don't know yet. A chrony will come with my next paycheck. I've got some loads worked up using Unique and the 220 gr SMK. Meanwhile, please excuse a proud photo. Scottie added for effect. Weaver V-series scope is a holdover from the .223 prairie dog gun this was before. The 1/8 MOA target dot and capped turrets won't work well for the round, but they should work great for load development. As this is a range toy/hog hunter, I'm planning on the Weaver 3-10X mil/mil tactical. The mil-dots and easy adjustment should come in handy for the rainbow-like trajectory. I'm also a month into the Form 4 wait on my AAC 762SD suppressor. Gun started life as a .223 Rem 700 SPS Varmint. I added a B&C light tactical stock a long time ago, and the AAC barrel just recently.

So what do you think? I hope she shoots.

There is a special place in my heart for short barreled rem700's. I like it! Where's the suppressor!?!!?!?!?

Keep us posted on load development.

Nice.

What length barrel is that?

Looks like a 16 to me.

Yes, it's the 16" AAC barrel they're marketing - don't know who the OEM is.

Very cool...and cute dog.

What's the barrel spec?

16" "medium" contour 1:8" twist. Hogged out the barrel channel quite a bit and epoxy bedded the action. It still barely free-floats so I might hog it out a little more.

Oh, and thanks - I had reservations when the wife wanted a Scottie but she turned out to be a furious little fighter. Great dog, if not a little stubborn.

Got out early this morning. Chrony'd Hornady's 300 Whisper load (110 gr V-max) at around 2450 fps. 5-shot group measured about 1" C2C, including the last shot that drifted with a wind shift. I was using a bipod and a towel for a rear bag. Obviously I could do better offa rest. Should be a great hog load.

My subsonic loads were a fail. I had found someone posted a 5.6 gr load of Unique unde the 220 gr SMKs. I worked up a ladder of loads from 5.4 to 5.8 and even the 5.8 only chrony'd around 900 fps. The 5.6 gr load ranged form 700 fps all the way up to 850 fps. The variance is probably due to such a small load of powder not igniting consistently.

I'm bailing on the Unique and will try N110 - I hear it's still clean but more fluffy.

COL for all loads is 2.20", which is a little below the lands. I'll measure the chamber this week and get an exact length and then adjust for minimal jump.

ETA: Just measured the last group of the day. 5 shots of the factory Hornady load measure 1.585" E2E, which would be 1.277" C2C. Throw out the flyer from the wind shift and it drops to 0.736" C2C. I'd be happy with the project if I can get my subs to match that.

I have just started looking into a similar build, so I know nothing. When moving from a .223 R700 to a .300BLK, changing the barrel is basically the only change, correct?

Oh man, I am in love with that short barreled .300BLK!

That is a very nice gun, now for a silencer?

Also, sweet dog.

Yep, just a barrel swap and possible recoil lug modification/replacement if your headspace is incorrect. Mine was within spec according to the headspace gages.

Thanks - 762SD on the way as soon as the BATF gets done with the paperwork.
