View Full Version : Olympic Arms FF Rail (Firsh?)
Does anyone have experience with this rail? Our department issue rifles (with A2 uppers) have it, and me and my cohorts are wondering if it is stable enough to mount an Eotech or Aimpoint to it as opposed to resorting to a gooseneck mount.
I have a couple and for the price I don't think there is anything better. Mine are rock solid! I had my Eotech mounted on the rail and had no problems. I just recently moved it back to the rear to try and move some of the weight back.

I have a good friend that built them for a while, and he hated them. He has an MSTN LMT with a DD rail.
Seth, I don't particularly like them either, but that's what the department bought. Did your friend have any experience with optics on the rails?
I remember seeing one in a recent class. It seemed nice enough; especially considering it's relatively cheaply priced. If I remember correctly it wasn't holding that guy back. He shot damn awesome through the whole class. I'm sure it would do fine for 99.9% of us.
As a matter of fact I've never seen anyone "Outshoot" their handguard.
I installed one for a local guy and while it was heavy and fat (it's completely round so it's very wide) it seemed very solid and built like a tank.
I don't think you'll have any issues mounting optices on it unless the rails aren't spec.
On the issue of outshooting a handgaurd- I have seen a few different makes and models of rails come loose, and more often they just weigh you down. A good rail adds a few ounces to the weapon, a bad one adds a pound. The FIRSH is one of the heaviest, and not one of the most conductive.
I ran one for awhile on my duty carbine, and never had any issues. It might not be the coolest rail, and it certainly isn't the lightest, or thinnest, but it can take a beating. Its what was available to me at a certain time, and while I am happier with my current gear, I won't bad mouth something that worked just because its not one of the cool toys.
ETA- Yes, thats an OA FIRSH on a Colt 6721.

I had one on my Oly'. My only issue with it was I could not find a Tango Down vert' grip that would fit it. Taking it in and trying four clinched that one, none fit. So it took some serious filing to finally get one to work. Which one was out of spec???????

They are kinda heavy and are very wide like the YHM. But they are not too expensive and they provide a continuous top rail. I've got a couple of bull-barrelled target rifles and used FIRSH tubes on them.
