Surplus Ammo and Arms is hosting a one day 1911 armorers with Ned Christiansen, 1911 pistolsmith and owner of Michiguns LTD. You may have seen his work in the 1911 forum here and http://www.m-guns.com/about.php, as well as at Louder Than Words http://www.louderthanwords.us/forum/index.php. Mr. Christiansen is one of the most well respected 1911 pistolsmiths in the country, and rightly so. The 1911 armorers course will cover the common issues found with 1911's, including those that are manufactured in and those that are caused by normal wear and tear, bad gunsmithing, and bad luck. Less common issues will also be discussed as well, with preventive measures and solutions offered. A brief description of the 1911's basic sequence of operation will be laid out as a foundation for the class. No one will be left behind as the class advances, although a basic knowledge of autopistols and the 1911 would be helpful. The class will cover the fitting of grip and thumb safeties and other aftermarket / replacement parts, but hear in mind it is a one-day armorers class and not a weeks long custom gunsmithing course.

The class will be taught using PowerPoint, slides, videos, and cutaways.

The class is cost is $250.00, 8:00 -5:00 with a 45 min break for lunch. Location will be in downtown Tacoma,WA on September 18, 2011. The address will be provided to registrants upon receipt of a non-refundable 50% deposit. Deposits for the course will be accepted here locally in the store, surplusammo.com/

Each student will be provided with a proprietary, 1" thick, three-ring-bound class book, a Brownell's 1911-specific catalog, and Ned's multi-purpose punch. Each student will have the use of a dummy round during the class for extractor tensioning.

Students should bring a 1911 or two, safety glasses (required), a few rags, light cleaning gear, lube, screwdrivers and and/or Allen wrenches for grip screws. A towel or mat to work on would be helpful. . A large and complete toolbox is not necessary; don't overcrowd your workspace. Weapons will checked in by staff . Please have no loaded ammo or magazines accessible. Safety will be stressed and enforced but in the classroom environement it is necessary to move the weapons around while working on them in a group, so, again, no live ammo in the area!
