I have an SR-15 and I'm unsure if it's an E3. It has the E3 bolt. The information on the lower shows
SR-15 5.56mm
Knight's MFG CO
Titusville FL.
USA

It has a URX II Mid-Lenght

Bottom line, is this just an earlier version, or is it an E3?

Mine says the exact same thing. You have an E3.

What makes you think it isn't an E3? As stated, if you have the E3 bolt & ambi lower, then it is an SR15 E3 IWS. If its missing the laser engraving on the upper receiver or rail, then it is probably a very early production gun.

That's it exactly. It doesn't say E3 on it anywhere. Serial number is KM902xxx.

The first E3's did not have engraving on the upper receiver or on the rail. As long as you have the E3 bolt, you are good to go. You may have the original gas port dimensions, so it may not run well with weak ammo.
