I'm going back to Glocks from M&Ps. Before I sell the Smiths, here's a series of pics comparing the Glock 19 with the M&P9FS and the M&P9c. Hopefully you'll find 'em helpful if you're considering a switch.

All three side-by-side:

Great comparison pics, thanks. You never explained WHY you're going back to Glocks though. I'm not flaming you, I'm a huge GlockFanBoy and once in a while I THINK about maybe one day getting an M&P, so I'm just curious. Love my many Glocks and will never part with em, but it looks like Smith has tried to improve on "perfection" in a few areas.

Going back to Glocks mostly because I shoot 'em better. Also because I realized I'd probably have to drop Apex parts into every future M&P I picked up, just to get a trigger that Glocks can give me out of the box. Finally, the "sear flutter" issue had me a little spooked. My 9c was a converted Mass. model, so no worries there, but my 9FS was made in late '09.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what exactly are you speaking of about "Sear Flutter?" I have a .40 fs and c model with Apex sears and USB's, and RAM's. Even before I knew about Apex I never had any problems with the sears. Are you talking about dead triggers?

I think the M&P c model is the perfect size compact pistol. I went from a G27 to the c model and like the size much better. I have big mitts though.

Yep. Not the main issue for me in the switch back, but a thumb on the scale, definitely. David Bowie's comments on the issue were enough to give me pause. Biggest thing, though, was that the hits were much easier for me with the 19 than with the 9c.

Then that's what counts, which one you can hit better with. I do better with the M&P's so that's what I carry. Different strokes for different folks. Enjoy your new pistols when you get them.

I am an avowed Glock person but the M&P 45 feels a lot better to me than my old G21 did. That is a gun I am looking at for the future for certain.

Where can I read Bowie's comments? I am looking at getting a M&P, and I would like to know what he has to say about them. Thanks for the info.

I made the switch from Glock to M&P two years ago. I've got a .40 fs and c model and I absolutely love them. I only liked my Glocks. I like the M&P .45 too. Its very comfortable and accurate but..... the one thing I can't understand is how they can only get 10 rounds in the magazine when the comparable G21 gets 13 in the mag. I understand the M&P is a tad bit smaller but 3 rounds is a lot to give up. I would think that M&P could squeeze 1 maybe 2 more rounds in there, and yes I know about the 14 round extended mags. But I am speaking from a flush mounted stand point. Is the M&P that much thinner in the grip? I haven't looked at them side by side for comparison so maybe that would answer my question.

I am currently qualified on 9 mm Glocks and M&P45's. M&P's feel SUBSTANTIALLY smaller in grip than any Glock and the M&P grip inserts allow a greater range of adjustment than on Glocks, including Gen4 Glocks with the removable backstraps. The M&P45 10 rd magazine is appropriate, especially considering the genesis of the pistol from the aborted JCP solicitation. Sear flutter/dead triggers can occur on M&P's prior to 2011, however this is a relatively simple fix on the older pistols and not a worry on the newer M&P's with the improved sear housing assembly--there is no reason to be "spooked" by M&P's and perhaps more reasons to be concerned about the Glock malfunction issues with recent production Gen 3 & 4 pistols. For me adding Apex parts to the M&P is no big deal, as I also prefer to change parts on my Glocks, as discussed previously; keep in mind that this is my personal preference, as both Glocks and M&P's are quite useable right out of the box. I prefer the ergonomics and trigger on the M&P, but shoot both pistols quite adequately for my needs.

Bowie's comments re the "dead trigger" issue are here (https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=63723&page=3).

Of course, I'm not qualified to make any sort of pronouncement either way, and the respective merits/liabilities of the two platforms have already been thoroughly discussed here. Just relating the thinking behind my change.

Oddly -- to me -- Glocks still fit my smallish hands better than the M&Ps. Even so, the trigger reach is appreciably shorter for the M&Ps, and I'm sure that's a plus for other small-handed shooters.

One thing NOT to get sucked into is the "comfort" thing on a carry pistol, strange as that may sound. Sure an M&P grip is smooth and more comfy to hold, but outside of range practice or a multi-day training course, WHO CARES!? I will not repeat the Clint Smithism that gets over used, but when the rounds are flying two ways, I don't give a crap if my little ol pistol grip is smooth or blocky. I shoot what works, not what has the coolest design.

You carry your CCW pistol 95% of the day without touching it, and when you need it to defend your life, it just needs to work, not feel good in the hand. This really gets me when I see a guy in a gun store comparing how comfortable grips on various pistols are as criteria for making a purchase. GRRRRR!

I'm intrigued by the grip treatment on your Glock.

Is it just some hand work with sandpaper, or more complex?

Please, do tell.

Just a home stippling job -- used a wide tip.

Just so you are aware, the dead trigger thing is gone as S&W has updated their Sear Housing Block's.

They are supposed to have the new sear housing in all 2011 guns? I got a new m&pc in March that came with the older sear housing. Maybe I just got unlucky.
