Supercongress?

What? The regular strength Congress didn't already have enough power to destroy the country?

At this point I don't think those assholes care. All they're worried about is the credit rating so they can borrow and spend more.

Im not really sure how they can create a legilative body...because if Im reading this right this SC has to come to an agreement (create legislation) that has to be passed by a higher body of Congress. So we basically have a 3rd body in Congress, no?

The way I see it the republicans agreeing to it have basically said they want to collaborate with communists. For those who think collaboration with them is the right thing to do, and we have to work together.

Our country started off at a 2 between left and right. 1 being anarachy and 10 being total communism.

So we get some 4's, and work with them since people have the idea compromise means the bill is good, and they won't get screwed. So we become a 3. Then as time goes on we have mostly 3's and 5's. They work together, and we become a 4. Repeat the process until we have trillions in income redistribution, DHS, wire taps galore, no fly lists, and all with no end is sight.

If you're relying on the republicans to "save" us you're doing it wrong. Remember when Romney is you're chosen vote you're voting for a guy who signed the MA AWB into law, and laid out the foundation for ObamaCare with his own forced insurance scam. The Speaker of the House, back in 2009, laid out his own multi-hundred billion dollar stimulus program. Everything, well near everything, they tell you is a ****ing lie and they change position like they are play hopscotch.

Now they are going to form this Super-Congress to collaborate even better, and **** us over even more. This new deal they signed...that is over a year and half of tax revenue at the current tax rate. A national debt this large is bondage.

We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force. - Ayn Rand

Methinks this "Super Congress" will be able to give the American people a Whopper sized screwing. Gridlock in Congress is a good thing. When they start agreeing, most of the time it means "Ben Dover" for the taxpayers....

Weve created a government that chooses how big its allowed to become, what it may do, how much it can spend, and even whi is elected to what position. Good job America, the blame rests on the majority.

This whole Super Congress bullshit is nothing more than a joint committee with members selected by the respective party leaders. And the leadership of both parties have already said they will only appoint "hardliners" (i.e. Republicans who will block any increase in revenues and Democrats who will block any cuts to entitlement programs).

Sound familiar? I'm sure this Super Congress is going to produce some truly innovative and imaginative solutions to our debt issues.

So with a deadlocked Super Congress engaged in an interminable circle jerk, the mandatory "triggers" will kick in with indiscriminate across the board cuts which neither party is going to allow, so Congress will pull some "emergency" provision out of their ass to nullify those cuts and... surprise! Nothing happens! No significant cuts, no tax reform, no entitlement reform. Zip. Nada. Nothing.

How "super" can you get?

Exactly. We have our line in the sand and everything is a compromise until "one day the American people wake up in a socialist country not knowing how they got here." :help:

I hear what you are saying, but McCain is a Senator. I highly doubt Ron Paul will get selected to be on the "Super Congress".

"It only stands to reason that where there’s sacrifice, there’s someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there’s service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master."

How many hundreds of times has Obama talked about shared sacrifice? Whether or not you like Ayn Rand's writing it was certainly frighteningly prophetic.

she really had it wired back then.

I guess living through the Kerensky Revolution and the Bolshevik Revolution, as a teenage girl no less would give one such a perspective.

"Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men."

Wanna bet?

Here's McConnell's take: “We anticipate that the joint committee will certainly deal with major entitlement reforms,” McConnell says. “That’s something we could not get out of this president without raising taxes. The reason this package is not bigger than $3 trillion is because the price of going to $4 trillion was a big tax hike. The president said, I won’t do systemic entitlement-reform changes without big taxes. That was a price we were not willing to pay.”

And here's Reid: In an interview, Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) said that he would like to “put people on it who are willing to do entitlement cuts . . . people with open minds.” But the GOP’s uncompromising stand against tax increases, he said, “makes it pretty hard for me.” (http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/senate-passes-debt-limit-bill/2011/08/02/gIQAIp2kpI_story.html)

Meanwhile, the big money lobbyists are gearing up to rain money to protect their special interests, most notably defense and healthcare spending: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0811/60548.html

The final "kiss of death," Tim Geithner is endorsing the "Super Committee" as an effective mechanism for bipartisanship negotiation. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/compromise-achieved-reforms-the-next-chapter/2011/08/02/gIQAXQBMqI_story.html)

From Giethner's op-ed piece cited above: "Beneath all the bluster, the prospects for compromise on broader and deeper reforms are better than they have been in years. Leading Republicans have begun talking about tax reforms that will raise revenue and help reduce the deficit. Democrats recognize that we have to find savings to preserve programs for the elderly, the middle class and the poor, and to create room to help rebuild the economy."

I don't know what kinda skunk bud he's been smokin' but it's the kind.

Republicans are stupid to agreeing to this because it takes the rest of them off the hook for having to put skin in the game.... especially with so many democrat senators up for reelection next year.

This was also interesting: http://www.infowars.com/ron-paul-sounds-alarm-on-disturbing-super-congress/

Anyway, let me see if I'm understanding this correctly:
They want to appoint a committee of people of their own choosing, who none of us will get to vote for, which with it's 'extraordinary new powers' will effectively be above congress, which can make up pretty much any law they like and all the rest of congress gets to do is vote Y/N ? So technically, wouldn't this more or less nullify congress?

Is it just me, or does this sound a little to....convenient?

You and me both! A judge who's read the Constitution, understands and believes in it, and exercises his authority accordingly. He is very much a Constitutionalist/libertarian and I have a lot of respect for him after hearing him speak on many topics.
