Ok so I STOLE a GEN 2 G19 for $320. Gun had about 100rds through it. :D

So this is going to be my new project gun. Here is what it I am going to do to it:

1. Change out all the springs that could be worn out.
2. Change out the factory mag release to the Vickers Tactical.
3. Change out the factory slide catch to the Vickers Tactical.
4. Install Ameriglo "Hackathorn" i-dot sights.
5. Install 3.5 Connector.
6. Round and polish striker block.
7. Polish trigger bar and any other components that need it (remove burrs and such).
8. Stipple.

Will post updates as the project moves along.

Gen 2s are my favorites. I have one I got screwed on in an internet deal that has Phase 3 malfunction problems (and a ghetto-fabulous chrome barrel) but I otherwise wish they had just added the light rail to that grip style.

Instead I buy Gen 3s and have Boresight Solutions essentially cut the grip down the Gen 2 dimensions.

Dont think you can install the Vickers slide release with the 2-pin model Glocks. If you prove me wrong, I would be happy to know :D

I love a Gen2.

I kinda wish I hadnt traded my stipple 19 in on the G19 RTF2, but I figured the RTF would be harder to come by later.
Wish I still had both.

Funny how much smaller that gun feels without the finger grooves aint it ?

To me, the GEN 2 Glock's (specifically the G19) make the best CCW option as the lack of rail reduces the footprint even more.

I've been hunting a gen 2 19 for a while. I think they might be the best 9mm ever produced.

The Gen 3 frame should have added a light rail and thats it. The 2 was a perfect grip IMO.

Please forgive my ignorance, but if the gun has 100 rounds through it, why would the springs need to be replaced? Just because of their age?

I have some Gen3 Glock 19's that are the 2 pin models. I'd be real interested to hear if the Vickers slide release will work.

Yes Grant, you stole that gun. Stealing is a sin. If you start to feel guilty about being a sinner, let me know. I'll give you $320 for the gun, just to ease your guilt...

The Gen2 Glock 19's look very proportional in my opinion. The perfect CCW gun.

Typically guns that are this old, you want to change out the springs.

Remember that you do PM's on your guns because of round count OR time. So in this instance, the gun is more than 5yrs old.

While this gun would most likely run fine, we do PM's to head off any potential problem instead of waiting for a problem and then having to fix it.

Wish I had tucked a few of them away. But then I'd settle for a deal on a Gen 3 RTF with straight slide serrations.

I wouldn't stipple it.

IMHO, if they'd remove the M1913 rail, and finger grooves then Gen4 would be superior to all other models. They need to fix the gay extractors though.

But the Gen2 has a gnarly ass simple AK look to it, that would be destroyed with a wood burning kit...

Here is a link to an interesting post on the history of the generation changes. I can't vouch for the accuracy. I seem to remember from an armorer's class that the finger grooves were added because of import requirements, but can't find that when I search. Does anyone else remember hearing or reading that?

I also prefer the Gen 2 grip w/o grooves and wish they'd never changed. I could live with a light rail on the Gen 2, take it or leave it. The 40's got three pins so I may try that slide release.

Here is my Model 23 with a little modernizing. I had to think twice about milling the slide for the Trijicon but I said screw it and went ahead with it. They now make a machined insert plate that can cover the milled area if I wan't to remove the RDS.

I found one exactly like yours with probably around the same round count. It was at my local gun shop on Sat. It took all my strength to walk out without it. I stopped back by today knowing with my luck it would be gone. Some how it was still there. I took that to mean I was supposed to have it. I got a real good deal on it but not as good as yours. Mine is complete with Austrian proof marks. It will be going to tgginc for 360 stippling.

I traded a Gen3 G23 for my Gen2 G19. The guy thought I was crazy, but I didn't mind.

The Gen2 grip is so much better for CCW. It's my go-to gun for everything now.

I need a G17 smooth trigger, though.

My 1st G19 was a Gen2 that I picked up used in '98 or so. Dry fired/ range fired that sucker so much w/out snap caps, I shattered the breach area. Glock did the right thing and replaced the slide w/ a Gen3, but the bastards replaced all the perfectly smoothed and worn parts w/ new stiff and gritty parts....... basterds:angry::mad:

Comparing the Gen2 to a Gen3, the Gen2 slips in the hand more when firing for me. Aside from that, I like the Gen2 better. Like the smoothed out lines and what not.

G19 Gen2, Born NOV89 (Same month that the Berlin Wall fell).

Got it NIB last year from a shop in Anchorage that had it in inventory this whole time. She's old enough to drink.

I've kept it stock except for the Glock NS, '92 upgrade parts, and a captured RSA.

The mid-size Gen2 Glocks are the best pistols they ever put out.

The first pistol I ever bought is a 2nd generation G19. I bought it in 1994 upon turning 21. It is still going strong after 40k+ rounds through it. I don't think I could ever get rid of this pistol.

Over the years I have modded it, carried it and shot it. Now she is back to 100% stock and comes out for fun at the range from time to time. I now carry either a G26 or a G30.

I had the same Gen 2 G19 twice and sold it twice. I got it new in the mid 90's. I think it was my second Glock. I'm pretty sure my first was a 21.

There are several LE here that work plainclothes and are carrying Gen 2 G19's. And they've been running them since the early to mid 90's. No problems. The guns have held up perfectly.

Took possession of a gen 2 '19 today. Night sights, 4 mags, original Tupperware for $350. Weehaw! Shot it immediately. Had three jams in 200 rnds. Sort of horizontal stove pipes; with at least one the brass was still in the extractor. I assume the extractor spring was to blame. I replaced them with gen3 springs from a G33 I no longer use. Will run it again next weekend.

Two questions:
1) I'm not changing out springs related to the trigger grp. So other than that, what's worth changing out? Was going to order a new recoil spring for starters.
2) will any 9mm OEM slings work? Or are some generation specific? (Aside from gen4 recoil springs)
3) where's the best place to order OEM springs from?

I have these two G19s. My favorite Glocks. The bottom one I bought new in 1996 (BLS4XX). It was my third pistol I ever owned. I put night sights on it in 1998 when I went to the police academy. They are still burning bright. The top one I just got in trade for a Sig P250. It is much older (XK1xx). I think Glock recalled these and replaced the internals. I thought if you had a Glock with black coated internals that you were supposed to get them replaced? These are the only Glocks that I own, except for my issued one, that I did not put sand paper or the soldering iron to.

I have an G19 that I bought new around 92-93. I sent it in for the "upgrade" (not recall) in the late 90's.

My locking block & connector are still black, but my trigger bar is silver in color.
