I'll be purchasing the Mayflower Low Pro Armor Carrier (http://www.mayflower-rc.org/store/7016/22/Low-Profile-Armor-Carrier.html) and would like some advice and suggestions on buying the accompanying concealment cut soft armor to go with it. Admittedly price does play a factor, I'm buying hard plates as well, but I'm willing to spend more on the better option if indeed the more expensive one is better and it justifies the cost, within reason of course.

The 2 vests I found that would fit the carrier on our site sponsors websites, SKD and Grey Group, are the Velocity Systems VS-13A (http://stores.greygrouptraining.com/-strse-3501/CONCEALMENT-CUT-SOFT-ARMOR/Detail.bok) which is made specifically for the Mayflower vest and the MSA Paraclete K3K3A (http://stores.greygrouptraining.com/-strse-2649/K3K3A-dsh-PAE-dsh-CC/Detail.bok) which fits the vest as well.

After doing lots of Googling I still can't find the answers I'm looking for concerning the differences between Kevlar (VelSys) and Twaron (MSA). From everything I've read I don't see major differences between the two other than the weight of the material and the price of the competing concealment cut soft armor. Please detail any significant differences between the two such as better material in terms of bullet resistance, heat dissipation, life of material, comfortability, flexibility or anything else I'm overlooking.

Does the VelSys slightly lighter weight and Kevlar material justify the $144 or $209 price tag difference over the MSA Twaron?

BRAND: Velocity Systems VS-13A VS MSA Paraclete K3K3A
MTRL: Kevlar VS Twaron
PRICE: $550 ($485 SKD) VS $341 (N/A SKD)
WEIGHT: 1.15lbs/sq. ft. VS 1.56lbs/sq. ft.

Hopefully this can turn into a valuable discussion and be used as a reference in the future for other people who want to research the differences in soft armor that is available today.

there's a sticky in the terminal ballistics section that might help:

Thank you! Both vests are listed under Doc's recommended vests so I guess it boils down to weight and price at this point.

As I recall when I was purchasing mine the tradeoff was in weight vs. contact-distance shots. I could pay more to get lighter but not be as protected at contact distance or pay less to get heavier and get that protection.

I chose cheaper/heavier as my concern is largely training environments.

My reasons for purchasing armor and my requirements are very similar to yours Rob. I do remember reading you purchased the MSA Paraclete armor, how well does it fit in the Mayflower low pro and would you recommend it after wearing it for some time now?
