View Full Version : G17 Sight Help
I train at 25 meters consistantly. I have Trijicon sights on my G17 Gen3. I'm using a NRA B8 bull target. Problem is I have to aim approx 1 inch below the black to hit the 10 ring. Should I use a lower rear sight? I know it's a pistol 101 question but help needed on this one. I've been shooting the gun for a year or so and have been to several courses. I'm also quite proficient but would like to not have to compensate.
Thanks

You're not going to have options with the Trijicons.
Just know your zero.
I bought the trijicons front and rear night site for my G17 and it shot high at 25 yards. I replaced my front sight with .185 height trijicon nite sight and now shoot POA POI at 25 yards. Call Trijicon and order a .185 height front.
SORRY FRONT SIGHT HIGHT POSTED INCORRECTLY CHANGED TO PROPER SIGHT HIGH OF .185
Just to add I went from 6" high at 25yards to dead on at 25 yards.
I may remove them. Would a lower rear sight do it? I use sight black on the range anyway so switching them out won't kill me.

If you are shooting low you need a taller rear.
Check the Ameriglo website. They have a calculator to help you select the right front sight height to adjust your POA/POI. Their sights also use Trijicon inserts.

You need a taller rear sight or a shorter front sight.
error ∕ distance x sight radius = correction needed
All in inches.
For you that would mean the following
1/900 x sight radious = rear sight elevation
TC

By the way the change in elevation is minute at 25 yard. You could just file the top of the front sight and cold blue/paint it.
Try the 0.270 height rear. It's the one Glock puts on the 45's.
Ameriglo has lots of options, and they actually display the sight dimensions.
If you want to just try out the height to see if it puts you in the right spot, you can pick up an OEM Glock polymer rear for $6.

move front sight opposite of direction you want impact to go, rear the same direction you want impact to go so if you are shooting high would need a higher front sight or lower rear- usually the rear sight is left the same and you replace the front. also remember to align the sights not the dots- top of front sight blade even with top of rear sight notch. it is not uncommon if trying to align the dots rather than the sights for the poi to be off.
Saw a guy who is normally a good shot shooting way high at close range with a new gun- he was aligning the dot in the middle of the notch- when I did this it was very clear the top of the front blade was then way above even with the top of the rear notch. when alighned properly problem resolved
