My brother is looking for an AR after I convinced him to sell his 7.62x39-based rifles and go with the AR platform. He plans to use it a lot so I educated him on the benefits of a milspec rifle.

There is a used 6920 for sale locally, with an asking price of $1050. The owner says it has had about 200 rounds through it and comes with a carry handle and all the original packaging, manuals, etc. What would be a good price for this?

I know he can build a blem BCM for around $850 plus shipping and transfer, but as quickly as BCM uppers sell out, it could be months before he could actually have it and he's ready to start shooting soon.

Are there no new 6920's available locally?

I would base my price on them. If they were more than
$1200 or so I would get the used one, if less I would buy new.

Otherwise, I think its a reasonable price.

One shop has them listed for $1249. Another store has them online for $1050, but their estimated stocking time is 4 to 6 weeks.

I believe 6920s started coming with FA bolt carriers in 2005 and standard fire control pins and holes in 2009. Personally I'd deduct dollars if either aren't present given the availability of "correct" ones.

Locally the dealers are wanting $1600 for new 6920's, which of course is ridiculous. In that event a used one for $1050 would disappear in a New York minute, especially if you didn't have to pay shipping, sales tax, and transfer. However like the others have said a new one can be had for that much online, so if you have a local dealer able to do the transfer for a low fee then it might be the better option. I guess it's up to the ease of buying one versus the other.
