Just curious, what ballpark accuracy have you gotten with various 14.5 - 16 inch carbines with lighter weight (non-HBAR) barrels? Is there any noticeable difference between brands? One would expect a polygonal Noveske to perform exceptionally well, but I'm more curious about Colt, LMT, RRA, BM, Wilson, Shaw barrels.

I'm not an accuracy freak; I've just noticed that quite a few writeups on various AR's tend to get 2 inches or less benched at 100 yards (varies with ammo brand and bullet weight) and wondered if that is in fact about average.

A friend did buy a used Oly years ago with a 16" HBAR of indeterminate origin and that sucker, while heavy, would shoot well. :)

Being discussed here (https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=7899)

I was hoping to get out this weekend to do some testing as I now have my bipod and scope but I don't think it's going to happen. Maybe later this month.

My BM M4gery is close to MOA with Federal XM192 ammo. The photo below is a 100 yard target shot on sandbags with a compact ACOG on an otherwise stock rifle (1 in 9 twist). My BM has an excellent trigger pull which helps too.

If you really want to see what an AR can do you'll need a good mount and a good scope. When I want to check for absolute accuracy I use my wifes Nightforce NXS 12-42x 56mm which is in a LaRue SPR 30mm mount (makes it easy to attach to an AR).

Using a 2MOA or 4MOA Aimpoint, an EOTech won't really show you what it can do. These types of optics are for speed. ACOGs won't really help much either.

I've found carbines are pretty accurate, most AR's for that matter.
Colt 6520 barrel 50 grain HP American Eagle not bad for a chrome lined light weight barrel even if it is only 3 shots.

Thanks gents for the responses. I have a 6520 barreled upper on the way and look forward to seeing what it can do.

Useless information without telling us the range and ammo used.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the accuracy of my BM and RRA carbines.

With M193 type ammo I can get about 1 - 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards. On my RRA and IOR 1.1-4X optic I go a 5-6 inch group at 600 yards. I posted the pics here a while back.

I've just added a grip pod and would like to get out and try it at mid ranges.

I shot a 5 shot, 2 MOA group thru my 14.5" Bushmaster M4 profiled barrel using irons.

I was trying to establish POI shift with my M4-1000 attached. Distance was 100 yards with XM-193 ammo, and A2 Irons.

With the carbean sight radius, I'm usually happy to hold 2" groups at 50 yards. 2 MOA is usually the best I can do with a full sized rifle.
