I was sent this upper to test by a member on another forum to test so it is his configuration. This is an AAC 300 Blackout nicely appointed with Troy primary front sight modeled after M16 front sight, ARMS rear BUIS which has two apertures for distance and lighting this sight also has a notch on both apertures for CQB or in close shooting, The muzzle device is a YHM QD mount for a 7.62 can, The KAC rail system has two matching rail guards. First impressions are that this is a very nice lightweight package. I really like his configuration with the sights and the muzzle device with the "Phantom" lineage; I like the phantom enough to consider buying a Surefire with their variant despite my positive experiences with my AAC M4-2K which has a Phantom. I may go with a AAC can and get a brake mount instead. I don't know if I'd do anything different with the hand guards, they feel good but I think a bottom guard or the rail ladder type deal may be better. The action has the "new grit" feel, which will no doubt smooth out within a few hundred rounds to a glass like quality. I’m anxiously awaiting ammo to stretch this beast legs a bit. I will post some pics of the guts shortly.

The Guts....... This upper is very clean, zero accumulation of carbon anywhere yet however, I did note some copper on the rear or the bolt before the gas rings. This tells me that pistol powder runs real clean in this setup. The bore looks mint, the lands and grooves are pronounced well. During breaking in I like to use a very light oil so mating parts wear in smoothly, then I go to a CLP type lube or even Mobile 1.

So I had a chance to get out and shoot this setup (non-suppressed) briefly before my buffer tube crapped the bed but more on that later (btw the weapon didn't fail). I passed a few hundred rounds 125 gr OTM 300 BLK down the pipe of the 9 inch AAC BLK upper ( ammo supplied by Rsilvers on behalf of AAC, produced by Remington). I used Open sights and a leupold 3-9x scope. Before the uneducated remark about the front sight obstructing the field of vision within the optic now that "typically" any 3x and greater will optically ignore the front sight Ie you wont see it. I did a 20 shot open sight group at 50 yards after getting it on paper at 25 yards. These are my pics of my results all at 50 yards, I intend on increasing the distance AFTER I get a new buffer tube.

This is with open sights at 50 yards while adjusting the dope.

I did not subtract the bullets diameter from the groups (.30) which would indicate that at 50 yards this is under a 1 inch group MOA out of a 9 inch upper. I don't believe there is not an AK off the shelf out there that could perform like this...

I played around with Buffer spring combos and stuck with my Spikes ST-T2 and a tubbs flatwire spring, It works great.

I fam fired the 220gr to ensure function and I note zero issues with STANAG magazine or the P mags. I think the recoil from the 220gr is very different from everything I have ever fired, it’s very soft but reliable.

Great pics Devil DOC!

What happened to the buffer tube?

I noticed you're running the SSS spring.

My first lower has that and an H2.

My newest lower has the A5.

Overall I think it's a much better setup.

Something to consider if you're replacing the tube anyhow.

What's the A5? Post links or pics please.

The A5 uses a rifle spring with a slightly longer buffer and receiver extension.

I like the stock and believe the reliability portion but accuracy other than possible follow up shots is bs imho. thanks for the link, i think the next build will have one.

Thanks for posting the info, the function of the round was cool. I do have a little issue.
Not all of us live where we can own an SBR and a can, don't bitch me out about moving, I need two more years before I retire. I would like to see the same test shoot for a 16 inch without a can that you did for the 9 incher. I intend to build a new upper, maybe a new rifle, for the 300 blkout and I am trying to decide what brand of metal parts to use. I am limited in the choice of magazines, no PMag, but evrything else is open.

Accuracy I imagine would be a the same or better. Unless you have a special purpose for this Ie hunting or a good allotment for rounds and or reload I would look at all catridge options. If you plan on moving to a better state I'd really consider the blackout. Maybe an ACR, I have one and tested the shit out of it (check nfa talk). If it could be short and not suppressed I'd also consider a 6.8 but the price per round manufactured is close, reloading the blackout is far more cost effective.

Nice pics, but please note that MOA = (inches * 100) / (1.047* distance in yards)

Given your 1.234" group minus the 0.30 bullet diameter you have a 0.934" group at 50 y. Thus (0.934*100)/(1.047*50) = 1.78 MOA

That is still impressive out of such a short barrel with production ammo.
