I am going to be using it with a Nightforce 2.5-10x32 mounted in a Nightforce Unimount as the primary optic on a Mega-Arms Monolithic Tubular Rifle upper that has just the top rail. Some mount off the scope tube like the TNVC SAR mount. Others like the Burkett, DD, Gear Sector, Trijicon, etc. mount off the rail. The RMR would be on the ejection port side. Anyone have experience or recommendations on this?

Here's a Colt 16" of mine with an ACOG and RMR (model RM01, 3.25 MOA) on a Burkett mount. It's very fast as set-up, rugged & dependable. It's always on too unless you take the battery out. There is no on/off switch. Weight is only 1.2 oz with battery. About as small and light as you can get in a rds which works well for me in a multiple optics situation. Present battery has been in for 2 years and still going strong.

Personally I think it would be perfect with your Nightforce 2.5-10x32 and I have plans to swap out the ACOG for one. A lot of guys don't like the offset config. & I surely dont want to get back into that discussion (lots of threads on it doing a search) but if you know this is what you want or want to try out I have nothing but praise for Trijicon's ruggedized minature reflex.

I have the RM06 adjustible LED model. Trijicon advertises it to be extremely tough and lightweight and as durable as the ACOG. Water proof down to 66'. Battery life is approx 4 years on setting #4 and 25 days on setting #8. The weight is only 1.2 oz with the battery. It has a 3.25 moa red dot. I run an Aimpoint T1 on my middy carbine but I think I will keep the RMR for a secondary optic on my spr/recce type rifle. The placement of it would be no more forward than TRIDENT82 has his T1 mounted. The battery life isn't as good as the T1 and the battery compartment is a little more of a hassle to get to but I like the smaller size and lighter weight and 3.25 moa dot. It also seems I can pick up the dot a little faster than with my T1.

No need to sweat the RMR's ruggedness: it's a beast.

There are a couple mounts that come to mind. Trijicon makes the RM55 (http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3.php?pid=RM55), which adds an offset picatinny adapter for a standard low mount. Also, I have read good reviews of the Burkett Gen 2 (http://www.predatortactical.com/Optics-Sights-Mounts/GEN-2-Burkett-JP-DOC-OffSet-Mount-p37.html) offset RMR mount.

Whatever works for you. There is no hard and fast rule. Some like it as close to their eyes as possible, some at the end of the receiver, while I find target acquistion faster furthest away from my eye. For me it's more intuitive like "point shooting" & "focusing on the front sight" for fast close range engangements, especially if you're a both eyes open shooter like I am. We're all different.

I like the side wings on the Burkett mount giving the RMR more protection. I can also tell you Matt Burket was very easy to work with & professional. There was an issue with the first mount I received. I called and he promptly took care of it sending me another.

Can the Burkett Gen 2 be used without the ears?

The guard wings or ears are removable. I would think you could use it that way.
