Being the enterprising do it yourself type of guy. I used some leftover Plastidip from work and dipped a complete Milspec buffer tube. I then placed it in from of a fan and dried it abit. I made sure a lot of it glopped into the channel where a stock would lock into, is solide filled with plastic. Rinsed and repeated a dozen or so times. Then I took an old bycle inner tube, and cut about a 7" section of it, lubed up the buffer tube, and inverted the inner tube (pulling it inside out). I then pulled it over the buffer tube, with a bit of heavy grunting and pulling managed it over the tube. The center section of the saddle where all the bolts go into was removed, saving only one of the longer bolts and one nut. I then used the nut and bolt to bring the lower part of the saddle together, only turning the bolt a couple turns into the nut. Then I slide it over the tube, and tightened the bolt. Towards the bottom front of the saddle are to ears with tiny little holes on either side. Pulling the saddle as far down as possible, i treaded a small zip tie through the ears and cinched it down.

Here are my results:

Spent the most time on my build on this part alone, it ain't pretty but it works. Its on there pretty good, and I've tried to muscle it off but it won't budge. The check pieces offer a good check weld, although they are not completely flush with the tube. The inner tube covers the unsightly pitting from the multiple plastidip...dips, and is a lot more comfortable against my face. Now I'm not tinkering with this setup, it works for now, but I'm wondering if anyone else has played with a CAA side saddle on a buffer tube. How'd you guys secure it?

I'm not gonna lie, thought this was an arfcom GD thing.

But, that looks REALLY good. In fact, I'm gonna go ahead and steal your idea for an upcoming pistol build.

Question. Not trying to be a smarty pants but doesn't that "become" a stock?

it doesn't allow you to shoulder the pistol. Its only a cheekpiece. Infact, I hold it just over the shoulder when shooting. I made sure that the saddle doesn't extend past the buffer tube. In fact its about 3/4 an inch, inset. Putting to my shoulder would not be fun, its just hard plastic covering the buffer tube.

Need to edit this, the side saddle is the second most time intensive part of this build. Milling the 80% lower was the first >.<

Update. I just took a dremel with a sanding attachment to my CAA saddle and rubbed out :sarcastic: the 4 inchlong protusions on the interior of the battery storage tubes. It now sits flush to the buffer tube and the cheek weld pieces are a lot more flush to the upper part of the buffer tube. I was also able to tighten the bolt holding the rear section together about 1/2 and inch more so I am contemplating cutting off some of the bolt. Looks alot better now :dance3:

This is awesome. Now I know how I'll install mine once it shows up.

could you repost those photos? im trying to do this on my build and am stumped on fitting this saddle on the buffer tube. thanks in advance!

I used the Thordsen buffer tube cover, with the CAA kit and it mounted up solid to the Law Tactical side fold. About $85 for all of the parts.
