View Full Version : Suppressed 9mm AR

I've been working on this build for almost a year now. It has a Colt SMG lower for now but I'm waiting on a stamp for a DDLES dedicated 9mm lower to finish it out. I'm going to sex it up with Magpul furniture to match the upper.
I'm a disabled shooter plus a lousy video actor, but you'll get the idea.

Looks like a good setup so far. Personally like the idea of the ddles lower although I don't know if I'd replace an already sbr'd lower with one.

Never seen one of those BE Adaptive trigger things before. How well does it work?

The BE Adaptive trigger device works, but it's flawed.
The mounting system is not very versatile. It was originally designed to attach to a standard sporter rifle. The guy who makes them is great about working with users to fit a bracket to their gun. The one I have fits many AR trigger guards, but not my SCARs and I don't think it's going to fit the DDLES.
If you watch the video, you'll notice it double-taps. This would be a feature if I could make it happen, but it chooses when.:fie:

I know the guys at DDLES and shoot with them. That's why I'm doing their lower too. Besides, that dedicated lower is really cool.

Thanks

I agree with you on that lower being really cool. If I decide to get a 9mm ar it will be with their lowers(had a cx4 9mm and sold it thinking I might do an ar instead).

Any accuracy issues with that trigger system? IE does it pull the rifle like one could using their hands to throw the aim off?

I don't know for sure because I can't test it. My guess is it's very accurate because it's consistant. I use the sip'n puff actuator so it probably would affect long range precision shooting where breathing gets really critical. I only shoot 25 to 200 yards.

Hmmm, it seems I've seen something like what you're describing somewhere.

Oh yeah...it was MINE!

Ferris2son - my compliments on the build - very nicely done - may I ask what weight buffer you are using and the ammo?

Nice PCSporter. How long did it take you to build it? 5" barrel?

Thanks. The buffer came with the 6450 and I've never messed with it.
The ammo that day was Fiocchi 147 and 158gr FMJ.

I've gotta say that's totally brilliant and that watching that video makes me very, very happy for you. Keep up the good work! :)

I don't think my piggy bank can handle any more stamp collecting but that looks pretty nice! ;)

Took almost a year and nearly $5k to put it all together. It started out with a 5" barrel, but the one you see above is a 4" Lothar Walther. I've posted a thread about it here if you like:

Years ago, I had my 9mm bolt ramped by Adco as the popular thinking was the factory ramp angle was too severe and may lead to broken trigger pins and some lower receiver issues.

Somewhere in my travels, I was able to pick up a tungsten weight for my bolt and installed it along with the buffer from "Slash" - the increased mass, recoil buffer and spring seems to keep the bolt in battery a bit longer and seems to help with the suppressor - noticed in your videos a bit of 'blast' from the bolt on firing and don't know if this is normal and if the increased mass set up would help keep the bolt in battery a bit longer -

Sweet build PCShooter!!!

I run the Slash Heavy Buffer with a Wolff Xtra Power Spring in mine and it makes a big difference in sound by keeping the bolt in battery slightly longer. Also soften recoil impulse.

Well gases from the blowback are certainly a problem. They jet out the charging handle too. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try a heavier system like you suggest. More dwell time sounds like the key.

I received the 8 oz. buffer and spring from heavybuffer.com. Not sure when I'll get to test it. I also got a Gas Buster for it, but it has to be modified to fit the 9mm bolt properly.

Thanks for the ideas.

Did you get the carbine buffer or the 9mm buffer? I'm thinking about getting one too..

Says he got the 8oz heavy buffer and xtra power spring which is the same combo I run. Its very effective at quieting down the port noise and reducing gas blowback. I dont even need a gasbuster.

Thanks for the reply. Just that they make a long one for 9mm and a stander length for carbine. Both in the 8 oz range. Not sure which one to get.

Oh gotcha......stick with the 9mm version as the extra length as it is easier on the bolt catch.

Thats what I needed to know. Thanks!! They also make an 11oz 9mm buffer for suppressed units. Would that be better or be to heavy. I use strictly subsonic ammo in a rig very similar to the OP's.

Thats your call as I have never tried the 11oz version. I have gotgen the results needed from the 9Q.

9mm Q buffer 8.5 oz with spring. They also have an 11.5 oz. QT buffer.
They are both extended and don't need a spacer.

Thanks for your reply. I am debating on which one to get. the 8.5 oz buffer or the 11.5 oz. My rig is a full time suppressed SBR (like yours) so I'm not sure. 11.5 oz is a bit heavy and I would hate for it to not work right. Ordered a Sprinco Extra Power Buffer Spring and just trying to figure out which buffer. Sounds like I can't go wrong with the 8.5 so I may just go with that...

Ferris2son
09-22-11, 22:09
Well, I can't advise you other than to say I debated the two also. 8.5 is heavy. It's cheaper too.:dirol:

I agree on both counts. I am leaning toward the 8.5. It will be interesting to hear how she runs for you when you take her out..
