Two of his sons have also been captured by opposition troops. The Libyan civil war is over. Or is it?

This might be when it starts getting really ugly. Who is really in charge?

We'll find out soon enough, and I don't think it's going to be a democracy loving parliamentarian.

Time will tell but I don't have a lot of hope that this is going to turn out all that well.

Shits fixing to get real over there. The rebels are not only fighting the regime but each other. After Gaddafi is gone for good I think the country will really turn to shit with various tribes fighting for power. This could open up a huge door for Al Queda/Muslim brotherhood to walk right through and take charge of things.

The civil war in Libya is far from over.

Don't see that happening. We would require significant ground forces in place to make that work. No way POTUS is going to do that after the shit storm he took from his base over the A/C strikes.

It will go to hell in a handcart until someone strong enough to hold it comes along.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, esp if he thinks some more kinetic military action will boost his ratings.

"Hoot, here it is"

But other major oil producers are cautious about joining the race back to Libya. BP said on Monday that it would return to Libya to continue its exploration program “when conditions allow,” Agence France-Presse reported.
Still, analysts believe that oil giants could be the actual beneficiaries in postwar Libya, especially the countries that have shown the most support for the opposition. The Libyan opposition has hinted that some business contracts will be preferred if they win.
"We don't have a problem with Western countries like the Italians, French and UK companies,” Abdeljalil Mayouf, information manager at the Libyan rebel oil firm Agoco, told Reuters. “But we may have some political issues with Russia, China and Brazil."
This could mean that countries that have been calling for the Libyan conflict to be resolved through negotiations might see the loss of billions of dollars in oil contracts. US and European oil giants, meanwhile, might have the market left to themselves and perhaps new players like Qatar.
Pierre Guerlain, a professor of political science at the University of Paris Nanterre, says that no matter who ends up running Libya, the West will get the country’s oil.

I'll bet a Root Beer.

AQ and the Muslim Brotherhood are not my first guesses for the groups to seize power in Libya. Instead, I predict that oil companies will strike deals with tribal leaders to keep the oil flowing. Big oil will fund and pull strings for new leadership. Civil war, if it erupts, will include private security forces and mercs hired by Big Oil. One possible scenario: a popular rebel leader decides to go Marxist and nationalize oil assets, which invokes the wrath of other tribal forces allied with multinational oil companies. Gee... I feel like Tom Clancy or something.

I'd say the odds of Somali-style anarchy are pretty slim. Libya has shit people want. Somalia just has loads of starving Africans.

I predict a few years of low-intensity civil war/disorder followed by the rise of a connected strongman. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Saif ends up filling that role given his connections amongst the European elite, but it will probably not end up being a Gaddafi.

Oh just wait and watch the circus evolve. The media is finally talking about all the WMD's that Qaddhafi's been hoarding for the last several decades.

Remember when we invaded Iraq using WMD's as a pretext? Haha. Well, hopefully this time around we won't get tricked into another land war in Asia.

What's that, you say Libya is in Africa? Dang. Guess we might as well go into debt another couple trillion dollars for the sake of oi-- er, I mean democracy.

kartofell,

Ah got it.

I was referring to the "we" part of your statement:

"hopefully this time around, we won't get tricked into another land war in Asia"

I was not tricked and knew there were no WMD after UN inspector Kelley said there were none. Mustard Gas YES no doubt, Bio agents yes dirty nukes nope. Read the link below and other's on net for your own research. After you process the data what do you think ?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1302939/Dr-David-Kelly-hitlist-says-UN-weapons-expert-calls-grow-inquest.html

I was not tricked so that is why I asked about your context of "WE". Overton Window explains how politicians, media controls those aspects of what we see/think based on what they present etc.

Therefore it makes it easier to justify the action politically to have people's support/galvanize beliefs behind the cause.

Think big picture OIL, secured leases of Oil etc., Military prescence in region to choke off other REBEL countries in ME (i.e. Libya, Syria, Iran etc.)

Here's the bad news: "We" have ZERO control at this point & are along for the ride rather you believe that or not.

There is an agenda driving the actions about to happen that you are now coming into awareness of...

Ahhh, I think I got it too, Hoploethos.

I'm not saying I didn't support the war. I sure as hell support our troops and have a strong urge to finish whatever I've started.

There is definitely a ton of money tied up in Libyan oil leases, exploration agreements, export agreements, and so on. Most of the rebels have said they will continue to honor those contracts, but all it takes is one rebellious rebel to get the ball rolling. Look at how Chavez kicked the oil majors out of Venezuela. Like I said, there's a lot of money riding on Libya, and there are actors (both governmental and non-governmental) looking to ensure that Libya doesn't turn into another Iran or Venezuela.

By the tone of your reply I would say your switched on too.

BTW, has nothing to do w/ supporting our Brothers in Arms etc.
It is political agenda driving the Overton Window or PsyOp just like what is being perpetuated here now.
