I use the Vltor Scout Mount on my MOE Handguards. It holds my 6p at about the 9:30, position.

That looks like a better option for me.

The Vltor works well. But I think I would like the light a little farther forward. Like this one;

I just got it and am very happy with it.

Love the forward position and how closely it mounts to the guards.

I've been using this mount with a Surefire G2 at 1 o'clock (using a MagPul bolt on rail):

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Viking-Tactics-Light-Mount-BLACK-p/viking%20light%20mount%20black.htm

It's inexpensive and lightweight but I am exploring other options. The only thing I definitely didn't like about the Viking mount is that the inner sleeve is a bitch to get out without scarring it.

Thanks very much for all the answers so far.
I had not seen some of these before.
Keep chiming in all you want fellas.

I was using the Midwest Industries FSB rail with a VTAC mount. It worked, but positioned the light too high.

I have since went to using a MOE hand guard with the IWC mount-n-slot light mount. This positions the light (Surefire G2x) at the right location for my off hand thumb. When I look through my Aimpoint T-1, I don't see the light in my field of view. The mount is solid yet simplistic in it's design. I am currently using this setup on my Patrol Rifle at work. Put a dab of blue loc tite on the threads when installing the mount and you're good to go.

I was shocked when I first tried the MOE hand guard. I really like the things. For a non-free floating hand guard, it's hard to beat the price of the MOE. For mounting a light to the MOE hand guard, I'm totally sold on the IWC mounts.

I have one of the Impact mounts also and have had no problems with it as of yet. Good setup.

Take a look at the Elzetta ZFH1500 (http://www.elzetta.com/zfh1500FAQ.htm) mount. YMMV

Works great with SF 6P and MOE handguards.

I'm another convert from the Midwest Industries FSB mount to the IWC mount. Lighter weight and I like the positioning of the light tail cap better.

any problems running a G2X on an AR? just got the IWC mount w/ G2X and i'm going to be upset if the G2X doesn't hold up to AR recoil...

The IWC mount is a solid product. I just cant stand having the light in the 10:00 position. I cant seem to get my eyes to adjust to it.

I tried the Elzetta mount on a .625 diameter barrel. No go. It wont mount solidly on that barrel.

I ended up putting the light in a figure 8 mount from M&A parts. I used a shim to fit it to the barrel.

Dang bro, I bought the IWC mount and saw the specs on the G2X and thought "Can't go wrong with a Surefire.". Never even noticed the warning on the back. I have about 120 rounds using the light on and haven't had any problems yet, but sorry for the bad advice on the light.

So far, I've only got about 750 rounds through my gun since I mounted a G2X in a IWC light mount. So far, the light is still working.

I've had my G2L mounted in a very cheap (under $20) GG&G G2 flashlight mount and love it. only fired a few hundred rounds with it mounted in the last year but held up PERFECT and weighs next to nothing. *very nicely made*

(I do take my light off for like daytime range shooting but i added a 3 slot MOE rail so it just pops on and back off with a twist of a screw)

I was wondering if you have a picture of this setup? Is the mount situated so that it is mounted to the top part of the handguard or the side? Does it hit the sight/gas block?

Thanks,
Bill W

I don't have a pic, but the rail itself is mounted at the one o'clock position. The MOE handguard has a pitched roof sort of configuration, and this causes the light mount to dangle down to almost the three o'clock position. It doesn't get anywhere near the sight block. It's great for leaving it in exactly the right position to activate the light with your offhand thumb. It's not so great for zipping the rifle up in a gun case, because it bulges pretty good.

I'll add another +1 for the IWC mount. In addition to having a great mount for the MOE hand guards their customer service is unparalleled.

I never noticed the warning. That said I know there are a good amount of people running them on their AR's.

Just to update my setup: I ditched the vertical foregrip and moved the rail and light mount to the 10 o'clock position so the light mount points up instead of down. This puts the light right alongside the left side of the front sight base and makes it so I can activate the tail switch with my off-hand thumb without needing the VFG. It also makes zipping the rifle up in a carrying case easier because the light and mount don't try to bulge through the case as with the other mounting method.

Live and learn.

Here is what I did when I had the MOE handguards. Vtac mount at 12 o'clock. Worked OK, but have since switched some things out.

Bumping this up to see if any new mounts are around. I’m currently pieceing together a budget build and want to mount one of the G2s I have laying around to MOE handguards.

My former primary gun has an MOE handguard that I attached a pro-tac hl to with an MOE scout mount and v-block rings. Simple, clean, cheap set-up that put the light high and tight to the front sight post at 11 o’clock. I’ve banged it around a good bit and it’s taken it in stride.

Hit me in a PM if you want pictures.

Meh... I probably hadn’t heard of IWC when I got the above mount. I will say that I like(d) the mount when I was into that light/hand position. That mount gives a nice “perch” for your thumb and lines it up nicely behind the tail-cap push.

I have several IWC mounts they’re more expensive than the MagPul mounts. They’re well worth it.

The MagPul mounts work pretty well. They’re affordable but clunky.

TheTick- does that mount allow you to use the push button without changing your grip, too much?

Mistwolf and USMCvet- that Battlecomp option seems ok, but
1-I would have to buy another X light and I have 2 G2s that aren’t being used for anything.
2- That Mount seems like it would be hard to operate without a remote switch.
3- I have soft hands and don’t want to get burned. :)

This is a budget build (cleaning out the parts drawers and using up gift cards and catching Christmas and Black Friday sales), but it will still need a light and sling. I think the IWC mount with a G2 is the way I will proceed. Thank you for the info guys.

Anyone have a source for G2 led conversions and clicky tail caps?

I have a couple of G2's I did the same thing with. I don't remember where I bought the LED heads and tailcaps. I think it was the LGS.

Sorry for the delayed response.

That mount didn’t make me change my grip at all to push the tail cap. But, my grip at the time was to have my four fingers pulling back on the vertical mount and my thumb pointed forward and going up the ramp of the light mount. This grip required me to barely move my thumb forward to hit the tail cap and I didn’t (and still generally don’t) do the momentary activation thing. Just turn it on, do whatever, turn it off.

I really like that it gets the light up high and close to the bore as I found, for me at least, that there was way less barrel shadow when searching a building than when I’ve had prior lights mounted to either side or below the hand guard.

Full disclosure: my primary work rifle has a 13” rail with a protach-hlx rail mount at 1 o’clock with a momentary/constant tape switch at 12 o’clock behind my front flip sight. I do really prefer this set-up as I can drive the gun from target to target much faster and more precisely. But, my grip has now changed to my thumb-over and my index finger running along the 9 o’clock rail pointing the sane direction as the muzzle. I still have a vertical grip way out toward the front, but that’s used for positional and barricade shooting.

Short story: I ditched the set-up in my pictures above when I bought my 6920 and modified it.

Sorry if that was way more information than was requested/needed.

YMMV.

The Mossie is my preferred mount for this application, they work especially well with the SL MOE handguard.

IWC is my next choice.

There are gobs of LED conversions on eBay that get good reviews and likely do work ok, but considering the budget part the conversion cost is likely getting in to Streamlight polytac and protac territory which seems to be a known quantity.

I tell ya what worked for me, strangely, was a simple shotgun barrel/extended tube clamp. I clamped one end right in front of the FSP and clamped the other on an old G2 flashlight. Great, low-profile option for 11:00 or 1:00, hasn’t given me any trouble for the years I’ve used it.

Yeah sure but this is 2019 for Pete's sake and we've come a long way in mounting lights to weapons.
