Hi folks,

I'm building a SHTF gun so I'd like to choose a trusted forend and I'd like your help in selecting one.

This will be a mid-length gas system with GG&G flip-up back-up sight gas block. I don't need tons of rail real-estate so something like these smooth ones with a bit of rail at the end look appealing. I'm still brainstorming & open to all kinds of suggestions. What do you like & trust?

I don't know how much the above rails cost, but one of these (http://troyind.com/%20/battlerails/vtac-rail-trx-extreme-by-troy-9) is extremely affordable, easily installed and has been positively reviewed.

Vote 2 for the TRX. FWIW, I'd do the 11" and a flipup on there instead of the barrel. That sight tower might be pretty hot and flipping it up may not be the kindest thing to your digits. 11" will cover a midlength gas system, whether low profile gas block, or FSB chopped and profiled to become one. This is a TRX 9 on my 10.5" SBR. Covered it exactly as the low-pro gas/fsb terminated.

Primary Arms has the best price on the TRX forearms I've seen.

Interesting. I never considered the front flip-up getting hot. Maybe it would be better to sell the gg&g and go with a standard fixed front sight.

I really like my Daniel Defense Lite. I have it on my midlength BCM and its rock solid.

I use a Trx extreme 13 on my 14.5 carbine. From my expirence which i had a shorter trx on the gun i would consider a longer rail like the 11 in, the price difference is insigificant and so is the weight. Its better to have a little more space than not. I run dd fixed sights on mine whats the point of haveing flips if they are always up. If you are running an aimpoint ect i would go with fixed sights no bs just good combat sights DD.
