It happens.

I messed up the selector cuts on this receiver years ago. Honestly, I kinda forgot about it.

But, the remedy might be pertinent.

This is what is necessary to correct fubar'd selector cuts. Tig welds. Cost me $20. Go local if you are savvy. WAY cheaper.

Now I can dress this down and re-cut the selector cuts. Yay!

If you cut it badly, don't give up. With a good welder you can restore the hope / cool. :D

What about the heat treat on the receiver?

It took me a while to find the proper convex cutter for the selector. Until then, I had been experimenting with fail-centric cutters. And my selector cuts were fugly.

I'll post pics when I get it done. No worries on the heat treat. Not for this part of the receiver. It's all good in the hood. ;)

Fail-centric? What do you mean?

Was just kidding around. :p Translation -> badly chosen cutters that made crappy selector cuts. Totally my fault, but I like a certain look to the cuts. I'm a picky bastard.

Got the welds dressed down now. Hopefully this weekend I will re-do the cuts. Once it's gotten a good abrasive blasting, it's own momma wouldn't know I screwed it up before. :o

TIG welding is not the same as SMAW, FLUX or MIG

In tig welding the heat is not put into the metal as it is in the first 3 I mentioned. There for it is ok in this application
