I just returned from 2 weeks in Poland visiting family & had the opportunity for a day trip to visit some museums in Warsaw

Since I only had one day(I needed one day in each museum) I tried to get in as much in as I could but many of the indoor pictures were underexposed & didn't come out (was not allowed to use flash)

The pictures are from the following museums

Warsaw Rising Museum/Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego http://www.1944.pl/

Museum of the Polish Army/Muzeum Wojska Polskiego w Warszawie
http://www.muzeumwp.pl/

If you are ever in country, make time for a visit. IMHO, It's worth it!

PS: A very special thanks to member Montrala, We couldn't have done it without you & now in afterthought, if we could,it wouldn't have benn so memorable without you.

Is that one of those remote-control Goliaths? Sweet, I didn't know any of those survived the war. Neat to see one still around.

That looks like even better museums than the Korean War Museum in Seoul (speaking of the outdoor parts only -- we did not get into the actual building)

And a mix from pre war to modern.

It was pleasure to be your guide VLODPG :)

I also welcome any M4C members that will happen to be around.

Museum of Warsaw Uprising is definitely worth visiting and have lot to see. But it can be also drastic for some. Most of people on the West does not even know it took place or mistake it with Uprising in Warsaw Ghetto that took place couple of years earlier.

Museum of Polish Military is not very big, they do not have lot of funds, but they try hard. Unfortunately lot of priceless small arms were destroyed (de-functioned) during commie times, to prevent people to grab arms from museums and overthrow the regime. They do not do it any longer, but commie times damages are there to see. Also part of history.

Pretty sweet!
I'm half Polish (on my Dad's side), and my Grandma is alway harping on everyone in the family to take a trip over to Poland. She lived through all that WW2 stuff in the history books- supposedly spent some time in either a concentration or work camp too (never got a clear answer on which).
Apparently we have a bunch of extended family over there as well- one of my cousins and an Aunt just went to visit them a year or two back.
Seeing as how I'm already a gun nut and WW2 enthusiast, I think you just gave me a reason to think more seriously about it.

.

That armor plate is amazing.
Probably still did a lot of damage to whatever it was protecting.

Thanks for posting.

.

I was showing a friend the armor plate pictures you posted and he made a good observation. He said, "Whoever was doing the shooting, had a pretty good group!" Ain't that the truth.

They kept just putting them rounds in there!

Do you know if the plate was from a bunker or what?

Plate was from bunker of Pommeranian Fortified Line, that was supposed to protect Germany from the East. It was taken by Polish 1st Army (in structure of Soviet forces, we had also forces in Western Allies armies) in February 1945. You have more info on pic just up from plate pic.
