View Full Version : afew hogs with my 6.8mm
I got a new AR15 in 6.8mm back in June from Specialized Dynamics. It is topped with and EOTech holosight and magnifier. Also added an Insight laser light. I'm shooting Hornady 120 gr. SPC. Been wacking a few hogs with it. I was reluctant to give up my .243 but I have been very happy with the 6.8 so far.
Here are just a few of them.

Have you found the 6.8 to be an effective hog stopper?
Wow! Nice hogs sir!
The one in the second pic down is a monster! How big is that son of a gun?
those are some good sized pigs for sure
Dang man, you put down more hogs than anyone else i've seen.
yes the 6.8 has been very effective. However to be fair I neck shoot most of my hogs. My wife does as well. The big dark hog my wife shot that has blood on his side was lung shot he ran about 90 yards left an awesome blood trail got an exit wound. the big spotted boar I shot last night was lung shot he ran about 60 yards no exit awesome blood trail.
The beast my wife shot would have weghed near 450. for the record I have a sow penned up that weighes 460{domestic hog} WE were unable to retrieve him for weighing or cleaning up for good pics. The both of us could only move him 6 feet. I have weighed many hogs over the years and can guess them within 20 pounds usually. every once in a while 1 fools me.
Have you done any work with the 300aac blkout?

Those suckers are big...
What might a Yankee boy like me need to do to be allowed to come shoot one of those things?? :D
Those pictures make me jealous.....
here's a another beast we killed a couple of weeks ago. with a .308 along with a few more all killed using thermal scopes. this was one night.

Nice bacon!
I have a .458 SOCOM that needs something like that around here.
At least we have Pdogs to tide us over :)
I see a lot of hunting hogs done at night. I assume that's when they are out feeding?
How about day hunts? Or are they holed up in the thick at that point?

Kinda depends. I've seen them out early morning and late evenings (i have pics on my trail cam at 2pm in the afternoon), but for sure night time is the most active for them..
never heard of 300aac blkout. to be honest I never heard of the 6.8 either until I saw one in Georgia last May at the hog and predator expo.
Sorry guys I don't guide. I do on occasion take friends and I take sponsors. The guys in the last photo's are from EOTech.
We hunt mostly in the evenings last 2-4 hours of light and get them up out of their beds. We do a little night hunting as well. I love thermal. the really big hog my wife shot was killed about an hour before dark I got it on video. It got dark before we could hike back in with the camera.

Check it out, i think it would make a great hog round out to 250-300yds......especially if you wanted to run suppressed/subsonic.
I have killed hogs with a 458 socom, they go stright to the ground with a loud whoosh as the air leaves them! Deer do the same they just tump over in slow motion.
Looking good! look like alot of those are 300-400 lb hogs.
awesome
the 68 is my go to for hogs
whack em and stack em!
Hog #2 would go near 450
Hog#4 would go near 250
Hog#6 would go near 260
The big boar my buddy killed would break 350 but would not break 400.

you should come hunt the outerbanks here in NC, there demestic so no bag limit, the boars are almost 420ish, huge huge things, that those are the SMALL ones.
Holly Shit those are some Big Pigs...
I think I would use my LMT .308 MWS if I was hunting those big sumbitches...
That is a nice lookin' truck load of Texas bacon!!!:D
And that 6.8mm certainly gets the job done for ya.
Nice to see that you are a FoxPro Field Staff member too, I love my FireStorm and Jack-in-the-Box for bringing in the 'yotes, it is my favorite.
I've shot about 60 hogs on our property so far this year....they just keep on comin'...
