I've been wanting a little lever action .22 for plinking but these old eyes need all the help they can get. Cabela's has a Leupold rimfire VX1 (2-7x28) and FX1 (4x28) on sale for $199. Another one I've looked at is the Vortex Crossfire (4x32) rimfire which can be had for around $115.

Anybody have any recommendations?

If your screen name indicates your location, I would go for the 2-7x28. I actually prefer the Leupold 3-9x33 EFR, but that wasn't on your list. I used a Marlin Century model to kill a pile of gophers in Montana one summer, I only had a 4x then and my eyes were A LOT younger.

Guess I hadn't looked at the 3-9x33 EFR as it's a BIG jump in price--almost double what I'd pay for the 2-7x28.

My wife was about ready to shoot me when I met her at the check-out counter with a new rifle and she had a pair of socks. At least the store let her pick out a free shirt and hat based on my purchase.

It's cool to have a .22 scope for a .22

However, i would look for the 3-9X40 of my choice. More choices and MIGHT be cheaper. Just a thought.

surprisingly, on a .22 I like a scope with more power at the top end, like a 3-9 rather than a 4.

this is what I have for my .22 with heavy barrel as it is accurate enough to take advantage of the scope out to 100 yards...

I went to Cabela's today with the intention of picking up the Leupold 2-7x28 on sale but walked out with a Redfield 3-9x40. I actually thought the image was sharper in the Redfield and it was $40 cheaper.

Guess I'll see how it holds up. This little rifle is just for plinkin' so I think it'll probably get the job done.

I must have been channeling Pappabear.

I shot my 3-9 scope for the first time the other day on a 10-22. At 25 & 50 yards I could see my group building which was useful to me. I set it on 9x and left it there all day. This one is mine http://www.simmonsoptics.com/riflescopes/22_mag.cfm and at $45 or so, works okay for a .22 scope.

People seem to always have good things to say about the Nikon Prostaff rimfire scopes, they come in around $100.

Do you know where the parallax for the Redfield scope is set at? The thing about scopes made for a rimfire is that the parallax is set at 50 yards, instead of 150 yards for the scopes made for centerfire cartridge rifles.

Interesting thought. For shots to 100 yards, could that change POI, OR is it more of a focus consideration? I see guys At the small bore range run real high power scopes on their .22's for competition.

I have been wanting a nice rimfire .22 for some time to practice off hand shooting. Anschutz or that weather by or something enjoyable to shoot that is accurate.
