View Full Version : As much as it pains me...I think I need a .300 BLK

If I'm going to build my own upper, is the Noveske 8" barrel the best choice for reliability? I will primarily shoot subsonic suppressed, followed by supersonic unsuppressed.

And to make sure I understand correctly: .300 Whisper/Fireball can be fired in a .300 BLK barrel, but not the reverse, correct? And is the brass then no longer usable for .300 Whisper? I ask because I have a friend who has several Whispers, loads for them, and I'm trying to get an idea of the compatibility.

Why does it pain you?

The Noveske bbls are excellent, as are the AAC ones. Reliability in the configs you mentioned should all be perfect.

The one config that some manufacturers don't recommend is subsonic ammo/unsuppressed.

IN GENERAL you can shoot 300WhisperŽ in a 300 BLK chamber, but not the reverse. Kind of like .223 and 5.56.

The reason I said IN GENERAL is because the WhisperŽ being a wildcat has so many different loadings/recipes- some will not cycle your AR, some may be dangerous in terms of pressure, some will not fit AR mags, etc...

Standardized WhisperŽ rounds, like the current Hornady 300W loads work well in 300 BLK guns.

I don't know about the brass... hopefully someone else will come along with that info for you.

Some 300-221 use the case length of the parent cartridge, 221 Fireball. That is 1.400", longer than 300 BLK chamber and it WOULD be unsafe in a 300 BLK.

Not many people trim that long but it could be out there.

Headspace is the same. Ammo made with 300W or 300-221 dies work in the 300 BLK.

Congratulations on the decision. I really like my Noveske 300 Blackout SBR. One of my favorite SBRs for sure!

Both Noveske 8" and AAC 9" barrels should be good.

After the brass is shot in 300 AAC BLACKOUT, you can reload it and shoot it in every 300-221 or Whisper(R) chamber, as far as I know*

*One can never be sure, as there are lots of different drawings out there, and no industry standard for this type of cartridge before 300 AAC BLACKOUT.

Shot with Remington 125 grain Match ammo, and 9 inch barrel AAC upper:

I feel your pain, brother :p
As soon as my form 4 arrives for my can, I too will be in the 300BLK business :D

My pain is the 9" AAC upper sitting at my house and me sitting in Iraq...

I can't wait to get home and shoot it.

Am I the only one wondering why that can is pink? :p

I'm wondering about the red can too. Guessing maybe it's required by hunting laws, but I don't know. Inquiring minds want to know!

The can is pink. I am not sure why - probably a sales sample and he grabbed it for the hunt.

I have read just about everything I could find on the 300 BLK. I am an AAC fanboy (got the tattoo to prove it) but I already have an AR in 6.8SPC that I can not afford to shoot. All the high end ammo is out there but there is no cheap stuff yet. I gave up reloading log ago so ammo cost is what hinders it for me.

Cheap (but awesome) ammo in November.

So what you are telling me is that a 300 BLK barrel, cheap ammo and a 7.62SDN6 should be on my list for 2012? There goes my SCAR 17 money!

I'd like to know this too. I'm extremely interested in this cartridge, but only if I can shoot it relatively cheaply.

Already got the SDN-6, but I ain't gonna chunk out a grand for an upper if I'm gonna have to chunk out even more than that for a case of ammo. :o

Cheap is $12.99 MSRP for 20 rounds. But it is not low end ammo - it is crimped/sealed primers, cannelured and crimped OTM bullets - custom designed for optimum feeding and high BC in 300 AAC BLACKOUT.

This sounds VERY promising. I'm also in the boat of would love to build an upper, but don't want to have to pay $1.00+ a trigger pull to enjoy it. If this new ammo pans out the 300 is back in play for me.

I thought maybe it was a fashion statement. Does the photog work for GQ (http://www.gq.com/)? :D

Why the ajustable cheek weld on a synthetic stock ?? It just raise the price and any serious shooter will throw it in the trash to replace it with a McMillan/AICS/HS/etc

Is the integrally suppressed remington chassis version on the way?

You may find you are happy with the stock. I don't plan to change mine.

You can move the cheekpiece to a McMillan stock. It is just two cross bolts.

This is a Model-7 so AICS won't work.
