I know they're out there. Does or has anyone own(ed), run(ran), shoot(shot), like(loved) a 1911 in any caliber other than our beloved .45 ACP? If there is already a thread on here about this, please direct me.

I have a Colt .22LR, a Colt 9mm, two Colts in 10mm, two Colts in .38 Super and twelve 1911's in .45ACP. All but two of the twelve .45's are Colts.

I like the .38 Supers the best of all of them...

really enjoy my lightly modified (reliability job, sights) 70 series 9mm.
light recoil accurate.
it does tend to be a little more finicky on feeding my lead bullet reloads than my 45's, but as a range toy can't be beat
my malfunction rate is a mis feed about every 400 rounds or so.
I thinkthey are mag related but haven't dropped the cash on any really good (tripp, wilson) mags yet

I love my .38 Supers, and 9x23mm. I have barrels, and can shoot 9x19 from them if necessary.

10mm Delta Elite also has a spare .40 S&W and 357 SIG barrel.

Counting my Ciener .22LR conversion, I can fire 7 non .45 ACP cartridges.

There are a few more out there, but surely that is enough!

22lr- TacSol threaded conversion. Love it!

9mm- Springfield target, Colt 9mm commander, and working on a build. 1911 Goodness with soft shooting 9mm.

40sw- STI TacticalUS. Very sweet shooting gun, very very close 2nd to 9mm for me, and only because most of my guns are 9mm so there's the ammo preference involved!

* .22 conversion unit for my standard govt model 1911's.
* Have a custom 9mm 1911 on order from Cylinder & Slide. Do not plan to carry. Don't have a pic yet, as it's not in my hands yet. Hopefully by Christmas!

I do think there's something to the idea that 1911 platform is optimized for .45 acp. Thing is, because I like the platform so much, it's pretty much a given that I'll want to run it in other calibers.

I'd love to shoot a 1911 in .357 sig, but half of what makes 1911's so bad ass is that they shoot "big boy bullets" AKA big heavy sub-sonic .45 rounds that hit like a sledgehammer.

"Thats a grown mans gun, son, put that down before you hurt yourself."

I have a Baer PII in 9mm that is a lot of fun to shoot. It was somewhat problematic until it had about 750rds down the tube(and I ditched the lousy factory mag),but it has sorted itself out and has been trouble free for the last 1250 rds.:)

I highly recommend 1911's in 9mm for people such as myself with rheumatoid arthritis. The recoil impulse is just about zero.

That rollmark on the hard chrome(?) always looks so cool to me.

Nice pair of 1911's.

I've been interested in trading my Les Baer Premier II for a good running 9mm version. Thanks for sharing the different versions and pics. Only motivates me to get out and buy one even more!

You may want to consider a 460 Rowland also. It makes 45 super look like a 380 acp.

I'm pretty fond of my Colt Commercial Government Model in "Super .38 Automatic".

circa 1947

That brings back some memories! My father owned a pair of Colt 911's in .38 Super, in the early 1950's. He purchased them due to their popularity with LEO's back in the 1930's.

One of my earliest memories about pistols was watching him shooting a 1911 in .38 super, and my grandfather shooting a 1911 in .45 ACP that he had, um, "obtained" when he left the Marine Corps. I must have been 6 or 7, and they left me shoot both.

They "assisted" a little bit. ;)

I still have one of my dad's 1911's - it's a Colt made in 1954. Still have the original magazine for it, as well. It shoots very well - about as accurate as some customs I have fired.

I have a 10mm colt delta elite that I really enjoy shooting. It is one of the newer ones that I picked up new a few years ago. Can't think of a problem I've had it with(I think at least one of my friends has jammed it limp wristing the gun but it hasn't happened to me).

I should say that I have only a few hundred rounds through it though. I've shot my glock 20 and smith and wesson 610 a good bit more. I have a 1006 as well that I just haven't shot much.
