It is time to get the next shoot planned. I have received inputs for Oct 29th
Nov 5th 12th and 19th All are Saturdays. I think that the 12th and 19th are good days, but lets consider the 13th and 20th. Sundays might be better for some of us. Saturdays can be work days for me.

So, what kind of shooting will we be doing?

(like there's some kind I'd say no to?)

Saturdays are work days for me, too - but I have my priorities squared away...

heh :D

The 19th works best for me.

Any chance of breaking out the barricades and doing some shooting from concealment and/or awkward positions?

I've been kind of itching to try that.

The ranges around here would kinda' frown upon that... hell, I got my ass chewed @ Kenmore for taking a shot standing up (you never know, the recoil of that mighty .22 short could knock my 240 pound ass over - better safe than sorry!). So, I think the Range Officer might have a coronary if I tried dragging a barricade up to the shooting line.

And I can't exactly practice that stuff on my condo's front lawn, either.

;)

I can do the weekend of the 12th. doesn't matter which day.

So, is anyone planning on making this shoot?

GitmoSmoke
10-12-11, 09:20
Right now we don't have a reserved space. We are starting construction on the pistol bays in mid November, so I don't think reserving the short range for our exclusive use.

Anybody interested in an informal "fun" shoot on the 22nd? Right now my calendar is clear and I've got an itch to shoot at stuff.

It's central Whidbey Island, a couple miles south of Coupeville on the west side of Hwy 20.

I'm goin up to CWSA on the 12th or 13th to break in my new 1-4 on some steel plates at the 200yd range. I got the itch. I'm down for some other stuff too.
It looks as if there is nothing else scheduled that weekend.
If anyone wants to get in on it, let me know.

We wont be able to shoot the rifle plates on Sat. If this is something you guys are interested in, we need to get the range reserved for our use.
There should still be steel plates for pistol shooting available in bay 1.
Will likely catch the 9 or 9:30 ferry.

vader
11-12-11, 00:44
ok we are meeting at the north gate park and ride and 830-845 tomorrow morning to catch the 930 ferry.

It was a real pleasure meeting MookNW and Vader. we were hoping a couple other guys would show, but we made the best of it, and got some good trigger time in the 360 degree pistol pit. It was a a bit cool and a bit wet, but really nothing that hindered the shooting or the fun. Got to learn a few things (thanks guys), and got to break in a new carbine.

A lot of people showed up to use the rifle bays, and as we had no reservation, we didn't get to perform any movement drills. Just a few clearance drills, and some red dot sighting in.

Wrapped it up at about 2:30 pm, doubletimed it to catch the 3:00 p.m. ferry, and had some fooking spectacular burgers at Dave's (I think that was the place--great stuff!) in Lynnwood.

I burned through 300 pitsol rounds and 260 rifle rounds. Can't wait to do it again!

Oh, and I managed NOT to shoot myself with my Serpa holster and Sig 1911... :big_boss: Time for a new holster, though

Good stuff

Since we are starting serious construction work at the club, I propose we make the next shoot February 25th at 0900. We shoud be finished with the bay construction by then.
Rhino, you got to meet me too, I was the one covered in mud from digging on the short range and bay 1.

MookNW
11-14-11, 19:15

GitmoSmoke
11-14-11, 22:55
We would definately use the short range. I'll put our reservation in for Feb 25th at the next board meting. Pistol steel will be available for this meet, rifle steel will have to wait for the long range, Im thinking late June for that one.
Same fees will apply for all 2012. $15 range fee, $5 for BBQ. Ribs and Brisket for this one.

so Mook and I were talking the other day and we are gunna grab this shoot by the reigns and set up some good stuff. Jason has done a bitchin job the last few outings but it's time to give him a break and let him pull the fricken trigger some more.

as far as I'm concerned I'd like to focus of the basics and work up. I want to get a bit more long range pistol work it ie 25+ yards. we can use steel for this so it's a lot easier then having to tape paper. Mook and I both agreed that we need some longer range rifle work on steel and integrate some long distance movement transitioning to paper at closer ranges.

we have a mixed bag of shooters with different skill levels so we will try and not overwhelm newer shooters and not bore the faster guys.

all I have to say is DOT TORTURE DRILL PUSSIES!!!

Sad to say I'm changing from a 'maybe' to a 'no'. I'm planning (we'll see what the wife says. lol) to go to the Handgun Retention & Disarming class John Holschen will be teaching that same weekend. Was signed up last year, but it ended up being move to a date a week after my son was born, which was an absolute no-go.

Perhaps next time. I'm sure you guys will have a blast. Please put up some pics and an AAR so I can lament what I missed.

I'm also trying to convince my buddy that has an SOT to show up and bring some hardware for you guys to sample. I've got to double check with Andy to see if he can bring the PKM or the 203 (dead serious).

If there are any cans you guys want to look at let me know and I'll see if he's able to bring one. I'm fairly certain he will bring his SBR with the AAC Mini. He also has a couple of other demo cans.

GlockWRX
02-17-12, 22:11
Ok, full autos and grenades aren't allowed. Who knew?

Instead, my buddy is going to bring a 5.45mm Krinkov SBR, a 9mm MP5SD clone, a 12 ga Serbu AOW, and probably a P90 SBR. He will probably also bring some suppressor/host combos.

If you want to shoot any of those, bring some ammo. He tells me the SD clone works best with higher grade ammo. And bring any questions you have about getting suppressors or AOWs.

He has a 12.5 inch Noveske which I'm sure he'll bring. If his business partner comes along, he will have his 10.5 HK416 upper on a full auto Colt lower, with an M4-2000 to hush it up.

Well, you should be able to check out an M4/SPR, Mini4, and probably the M4-2000. I don't think they have any of the Surefire cans on hand, and I think they sold their SDN-6 demo can.

After having shot all three (M4/SPR, Mini4, M4-2000), I gotta say I'm pretty impressed with that Mini4.

Today started out like last years winter event. Snow. It was gone by the time I reached the ferry heading to the island. Still f'ing cold though.

I wore a Marmot Soft Shell, Helly Hansen rain coat and t-shirt with LA Police Gear Operator rip-stop pants, Wilderness belt and waterproof-ish boots. Tried to use Mechanix gloves but they really screwed with weapons manipulation. By the end of the day, I was chilled to the bone, so I should've used 'em anyway. Made no difference when I couldn't feel my hands.

Gray Ghost Gear split chest rig 500d, 3 mag AR shingle and double pistol pouch with HSGI blow out kit and tourniquet in BFG Tourniquet NOW!.

My weapons: Glock 19 Gen3 in a Blade-Tec holster and 14.5" DD AR with Trij 1-4x optic and Vickers padded sling

Had to move the blow out kit to the left side in order to clear my pistol on the draw.

Great group of guys again. I think there were 10 of us that showed. Various skill levels but didn't interrupt the flow of the day.

The Krink was hucking brass about 15'. Trigger smacked your finger HARD and the kick from the 5.45 was rediculous for the calibur. Arguabley the most drooled over gun of the group.

Just wanted to pop in quickly...

Vader, you turned in an admirable job of providing structure to the day, lending practical observations to individual shooters and maintaining the momentum of activities over the course of the day. Thank you for stepping up and adapting to last minute changes - well done.

It's also worth noting the benefit of having experienced folks like kaltesherz and GlockWRX present, who are capable of supplementing the day's activities with their own perspectives and techniques.

I'm obliged to the group for the collective lack of pretension. Once again this proved to be an inclusive venue for advanced shooters to demonstrate and hone their skills while the less practiced can observe, safely embarrass themselves, ask questions and identify areas for improvement.

Finally, a tip-o'-the-hat to Gitmo for providing a steady location to make this happen and for hardening our arteries.

…looking forward to the ion cannon and proton torpedo demo longshot762 will, no doubt, provide in June.

GlockWRX:
A quick question, after viewing your carbine in the image above:

Have you experienced any malfunctions when firing from your support (right-hand) side as a result of your sling potentially being pulled taught over the ejection port?

My two-point sling is oriented/attached in the same manner as yours. Kaltesherz observed that when firing from my support (right-hand) side that ejected casings were bouncing off of the sling and back into the carbine. Only the rapid cycling of the BCG appeared to be staving off a malfunction.

Do you have any techniques to avoid this or has it not presented itself as an issue? Perhaps dropping ones support side arm out of the sling entirely when transitioning shoulders?

I have not had a malfunction like you describe. This also includes when on my right side and near the ground (rifle mounted on right shoulder), or in supine with the ejection port close to my abdomen.

Theoretically I can see it happening, but it hasn't yet. I've done quite a bit of that kind of shooting over the last couple of years and it hasn't been an issue (yet).

Thanks for the quick feedback - my much more limited experience echos yours thus far.

Also, thanks for letting me try out your slick-triggered setup. The instant black-face applique camo is a real time saver!;)

Damn, I wish I made it guys. Looks like a great time, I had some pretty big stuff on the line and couldn't free up. I apologize for the short notice. Thanks to all who filled in where I couldn't help.
