I am really beginning to want one of these. Any reason not to?

No real need to have one other then I want it.
If it ever goes on sale I might grab one. So if you guys notice a sale let me know.

Looks like they are going for just under $2k on gunbroker.

I was investing my "extra money" in the stock market but that's so manipulated I think guns might be a better investment

I'm shopping for one of these too (or something similar), but I'm not going to pay what they're asking on Gunbroker for a Savage. Retail is $1,499 and I've seen them go for $300 under that, but they do go fast.

Reasons not to?

Many ranges won't let you shoot them and you really need loooong distances to truly appreciate the capabilites of the 338 LM.
Ammo is expensive at $4-$6 per round or more. It's quite pricey reloading too. You can find some deals here and there, but usually not on quality ammo.
Some have reported less than acceptable accuracy with the Savages, but I wouldn't rely on the errornet based on the info I've seen.

Buy gold instead of stocks :)

You could always go for the Savage 10 BA its in .308.

One of my shooting buddies bought one of these after shooting my 10FP. It's a great rifle but it's not any more accurate than mine. It is a bit lighter with the fluted barrel though and the muzzle brake does make recoil discernibly softer (which isn't a big issue with .308).

I like it, but overall it's not worth double what I paid for the vanilla 10FP? Both rifles are very accurate however and should you go that route, I'm certain you'd be happy.

Good luck!!

it would be better if they sold the stocks to put on your existing guns...
