I'm looking at starting another build, and I have read allot about the 300 Blackout, but how does it compare say with a 5.56? What about a 6.8 SPC 2? What are the real advantages of it over other calibers? I have 5.56's, 6.8's, and 762x51's, but do not have or know anything about the 300.
I dont want to start a caliber war here, just honest answers.
Thanks

Advantages:
Uses standard bolt, mags.
Subsonic suppresses well.
Big bullets.

Wow, i'd say try hitting the search button... but on the first page of this forum i count 7 topics on 300blk already. Read away my friend.

From what I read about it, the main points are:

Subsonics cycle an AR
Standard Bolt and Mag
Mags can be loaded to 30 rds
Better terminal ballistics than 5.56 out of SBRs.

Seems like a real winner to me. I wonder how straight the trajectory is?

Trajectory is like 7.62x39mm - but the bullets are higher BC. For example, the Remington 125 Match ammo has a bullet with a 0.338 BC, as rated by Sierra.

I have read, my question was really what are the advantages, say over my 6.8? Its a big round, hits hard, silences easy which I just got, real pros not some well its this and does that.

So its not real flat shooting but more of a arc, ala 30/30, 7.62x39? So as I'm seeing it, its only real advantage over my 6.8 is, it silences easy?

Just like 10mm over 40 S&W, 6.8 has an edge in power - especially from longer barrels.

The advantages of 300 BLK are:

1. Uses normal AR magazines.
2. Has 30 round capacity.
3. Uses normal bolt face.
4. Costs much less to reload.
5. Starting in November, ammo will be much cheaper.
6. Someone people like how it uses common 30 cal bullets.
7. Has about as much power from a short barrel, yet uses much less powder - so much less blast.
8. Runs subsonic and cycles without adjustments made to rifle.
