Really want the standard 16" LW middy upper, but don't see them at either G&R or BCM sites. 2 options currently in stock:

BCM: 16" Middy SS410 1:8 twist
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-SS410-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-mid16%20ss410.htm

G&R: 16" Middy Hammer Forged w/ LW barrel
http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=HFU-BCM

Both $489. Putting together AR for HD/SHTF/classes/range

Opinions?

The Hammer Forged option is the closest to what you want. That's my suggestion.

For the requirements you stated, I would go with the cold hammer forged barrel. It is lighter yet more durable than the stainless barrel and would be a better barrel for a general purpose carbine.

Hammer forged for what you want to do.

Thanks guys - the CHF is what I'll do. Tough waiting for BCM to churn out more standard LW uppers.

Correct Grant - if you see my original post thats where I found the CHF. My preference would be the standard LW barrel, but this morning it was out of stock on both your site and BCM.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but after refreshing tons of times, I still see the 16" Mid-Length (Light weight/pencil) OUT OF STOCK. Thats the barrel I prefer.

Keep in mind I don't prefer the CHF barrel, it just seems to be all I can find - or the SS108 stainless barrel; on the BCM site.

Please let me know if I'm looking in the wrong place or something else, Grant.

Thanks,
Tommato

My guess is that you are not looking in the right place. You need to look at the HAMMER FORGED BCM uppers which are located here: http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=HFU-BCM

He doesn't want the HAMMER FORGED BCM, he's looking for the STANDARD BCM.

Never going to find them. Go with the HF barrel. Longer life and typically much more accurate.

Really?

Yep, really. He has stated several times that he KNOWS he cannot get the non HF barrel is why he is going to go with the HF option.

Thanks for your help guys. I'm just curious how BCM can be out of the standard 16" LW uppers for so long? They seem to have most of the fancy uppers with nice free float handguards in stock, but not the no-handguard version. Not sure, but couldn't they just remove the handguard and sell as a basic upper?

It is counter productive to build an upper and then tear it back down (wastes money).

You stated that you were going to go with a hammer forged upper. This is an excellent choice and personally, this is the ONLY option I would go with.

(Grant beat me to it)

Labor costs.... they had their workers install an rail and if they remove the same to sell it at a lower price sans upper, they are losing money.

I've finally got enough scratch to get a BCM upper and found out that BCM was out so I'm relieved to see this thread....
