I'm sorry that this review is a bit late on this mount, but I finally finished my phase 1 of testing. This is a pre-production model and came with the so called "ugly/test" finish. To me, it looks right, especially when mounted on an AK.

Out of the box:

Weight with out optic:

Weight with Aimpoint ML3:

I personally like the way this mount allows the individual to adjust the mount in order to center their optic on their specific AK. The AKM mount's construction is superb. No sharp edges can be found.

Phase one testing:
I mounted this mount with the Aimpoint ML3 on my 11 year old son's SGL-31 for this portion of testing. We zeroed the ML3 and decided to see if the zero would hold if dropped multiple times. After several drops, I checked if it was still zeroed. It was! :)

We shot the SGL in various positions (kneeling, prone, urban prone - left and right side, and supine). No problems acquiring the red dot were encountered.

Total rounds fired: 2160 of 7N6.

My 11 year old helping with the test.

Also, helping out, Travis Haley.

Overall, we all liked the RS-Regulate AKM mount for the Aimpoint. This mount allows the weight of the ML3 and mount to be positioned closer to the shooter's hand, thus preventing fatigue and keeps the front end lively.

The locking arm locks the mount very rigid to the SGLs' receiver rail, once properly adjusted (my 11 year old son was able to figure it out and adjust it).

This mount does add about 1/2" to the thickness of SGL-31. I personally don't mind it, but to others it may be a sticking point.

Phase 2 coming soon. :)

I'm a fan of the mount system. I've been hoping for a product like this for some time, and the guys at RS Products nailed it, IMHO. I've had very good luck with my mount using a Comp M2.

I'm looking forward to testing a pre-production T-1 Micro mount here soon.

how does that attach to the gun?

The rail on the left side of the AKM receiver if it's equipped with one. Otherwise one will have to be installed.

No AK 100 Series folding stock.

That sucks.

Good mount though.

I like the mount, I have one on my rifle with a Comp ML3. It is rock solid and its still easy to remove the dust cover for cleaning. Have shot 2-300 rounds with it, no problems so far.

Not sure what you mean. The stock cannot be folded with the mount attached, but as MilitaryArms demonstrated in his video review the mount returns to zero when taken off and reinstalled. So if like me, you store an AK with the stock folded (to save space) removing the optic will not cause it to lose zero when you reinstall it.
Cheers.

The 100 series folding stock is IMHO the best AK stock ever produced, with under folders, and ACE stocks being a close second.

I don't have to pull my optic off my AR every time I collapse the stock.

It's an extreme disadvantage. No matter what you say.

I'd rather just get the TSA Railed Dust Cover. And use an Aimpoint T1.

"Extreme" how?

Because with a folding stock, you're loosing HALF the capability of the stock.

It's like having a collapsable M4 stock, and getting it pinned.

However, the M4 receiver extension conversion, would solve this issue, and make it badass.

No argument there.

Very close to what I consider optimal.

At least one of two ideas.

My T1 mount that was zero'd in Utah, removed, shipped to PA and reinstalled at the range three days later was still zero'd.

AKM-100 series folding stock and RS AKM mount.

Hey, that's my rifle! :D

Yes, you "lose" folding capability while the optic is mounted. To me personally, it's not a big deal. Every AK I own has a folding stock (AK100s and triangles). Funny thing is, I've never folded them other than messing around. It's sort of a novelty. I'm not a paratrooper, tanker, Russian SWAT member, etc. My rifles are either in my safe, in my trunk or being shot with the stock extended. And no point does the ability to fold the stock offer any real benefit for me, other than carrying/transporting in a discreet bag which is no problem given the RS AKM maintains zero when mounted. If at any time I'd have a "serious" reason to have an AK in my hands or slung on my body, the stock will be extended, so it's really a non-issue.

Basically, I like having the ability to fold my stocks if I ever find a need to. But I like the AKM/Aimpoint setup even more. I don't like where the Ultimak (the only other viable option IMHO) places the optic, and being a fan of the 5.45x39, I sure as hell don't like not being able to easily remove the gas tube for cleaning after burning through a pile of corrosive ammo.

Agreed.

I think the TDA M1913 Railed Dust Cover, LaRue Iron Dot, and MI mounts, are good options too though.

I'd probably go with the LaRue contraption that Military Moron reviewed.

The Larue IronDot no longer exists, and I've heard a lot of bad things about MI's new setup. If someone could get that type of mount right and available I'd definitely check one out. I do like that the RS and Ultimak don't eliminate the rear sight though. As good as optics technology is these days, I'm still not entirely comfortable giving up my irons...

I think the RS Regulate mount is an excellent piece of kit.

If I had a side rail without a folding stock, that's how I'd mount an Aimpoint, hands down.

Weird. I had a friend who had an IronDot mounted on an Arsenal AK-74 clone, and we saw no problems.

However, we only had 1000 rounds on it. He sold it to fund a S&B scope for his SR-25.

What was wrong with the MI mount? I heard they worked out all this issues?

Damn.

In that case, Ultimak, this, and the TSA system.

However, this with an ACE right side folder, and Comp M3 would be tits.
