I have been comparing options for an SBR and doing a lot of reading here. Money wise, on the surface it looks to be a decent deal at just over $1,100 after shipping before the $200 stamp and local x-fer fee. What kind of quality can I expect from YHM for the weapon, and what kind of Customer service should I expect from Impact Guns (never dealt with them) http://www.impactguns.com/yhm-lightweight-yhm-15-carbine-556-nato-105insbr-8100-105.aspx

Seriously? They can't even get the picture of the weapon they're trying to sell you right and you want to go through a drawn out, potentially 6 month+ deal with them?

As far as YHM goes, the quality is sub par at best. Commercial grade hobby guns, not something I would want in ANY AR15, let alone one I'm pretty much stuck with for life.

One of the only companies I would buy a factory SBR from:

However, I suggest you do some more research and instead of buying a complete SBR, buy a separate, non-NFA lower and fill out the Form 1 yourself. No transfer fee, and then when its approved you can simply buy whatever upper you wish for alot cheaper than any factory SBR.

Stick with DD, BCM, PSA (getting good reviews), Noveske ($$$)

 You forgot quite a few.

Colt and LMT both have far more experience and time fielding factory SBRs than any of the companies you have listed here. While I am not bashing any of them, and would be more than happy with a DD, Noveske, or BCM SBR, facts are facts.

Also while PSA has potential, they have not proven themselves worthy yet IMHO.

Knight's Armament SBRs are also very nice.

OP: NFA is not a cheap habit. Remember, you ware going to be married to this weapon in the eyes of the government. Selling it will not be easy because of the $200 taxes. You need to either be ready to pony up the bucks for something worthwhile or just stick to NON-NFA weapons. Remember you can get a brand new shiny Colt SP6920 for hundreds less than this YHM piece of shit. You want your SBR to be from a company with a proven track record for success in this arena. YHM...not so much.

An $1,100 budget for a SBR build is easy. You can build a complete lower using any number of stripped lowers and lower build kits for $200. Add another $200 to cover the cost of your tax and $50 for a rear sight and that leaves $650 for a new upper.

Good point wahoo. One could put together an LMT 10.5 MK18 for less than 1100 I bet.

LMT 10.5 upper = $485
LMT FA BCG = $125
LMT Charging Handle = $25
LMT Complete Lower (M4 Stock, Single Stage GI trigger) = $320
LMT Rear Sight = $50 (currently on Ebay)

Price not including tax or shipping: $1005. This will get you an extremely reliable, basic weapon from a very reputable manufacturer.

Add a SOPMOD, price of the lower goes up $120 to $440
Add a blemished KAC RAS for $150 (comes with rail panels, and a very usable VFG)
Add an Aimpoint PRO for $400
Add a Surefire M600C for $200 (once again from Ebay)
Add a sling from Blue Force Gear for $40

Now including the $200 stamp you are at $2000 for an extremely well equipped weapon with top quality accessories, that will give years of service. This would be a very close copy of an issued MK18 MOD0 which is a favorite among many end users.

Just saying, if I had to do it all again building my MK18 I would in a heart beat.

It's amazing how we are almost approaching 2012 and people cannot seem to use the SEARCH button for YHm or Yankee Hill Machine.

I wouldn't buy anything weapons related from them, certainly not an SBR. You can build am SBR that is functional and reliable for that price or less.

Start with this upper- http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/LMT-10-5-M4-Carbine-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/lmt%2010.5%20urg.htm

Add a Centurion Arms rail system- http://www.centurionarms.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=C47rails.tpl&product_id=69&category_id=36&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=47

Get a good BCG and charging handle and then a decent lower and you will come in close to what they are asking for that crap.

If you want to cut corners do it with anything you want, but not with AR's and definitely not with NFA items.

Not trying to stir the pot here, but I have an SBR that I built form 1 on a YHM lower receiver. That was the only part that I used from YHM on the build, everything else was more pricey on the build.

I also have a YHM stainless phantom suppressor, and while it's heavy, it does work pretty well. I have no experience with anything else they make. The quick disconnect on the suppressor gives me no issues.

Just curious, why are people bashing YHM? I've had no issues with their hardware, though my items are limited.

Considering you can get a complete rifle with an Aimpoint PRO I'd get this from PSA and take the upper apart and send it to ADCO to have some barrel shortening done. Sell the handguards, delta pack, handguard cap, and add a Daniel Defense, Troy, or Centurion freefloat. I've only read one thread about a PSA upper being improperly assembled but since it would be coming apart, no worries. They also have 10.5" CHF FN barrels there for $200. $100 for the upper complete, and a great start for a 10.5" gun.

Buy a quality gun. I have 2 factory SBR's an LMT and a BCM. Both were in the ball park of $1,100 bucks.

Good luck with your hunt and purchase. The journey is well worth it.
