9:00AM on Saturday 22/October @ the Aurora Sportsman's Club in Waterman, IL.
We are still working on a couple more stages for this months event, but so far we are looking at the following....
*VTAC "Highsmith" drill:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZJzJGawqLs
We will set the "Highsmith" drill up on the 100yd range.
*The 2 VTAC barricades will be set-up 75yds from the berm with 2 B/C Zone steel targets at the berm
*3 IPSC cardboard targets will be set-up approx 10yds away from the VTAC barricades
*The stage will be shot as shown in the video except the 3 IPSC targets will be scored for your best 3 hits on each. The B/C Zone steel targets will require 1 hit on each from each position as shown in the video.
*As explained in the video, it is mandatory that each shooter places their rifle on "SAFE" before moving to each shooting position on the barricade. Any violations of this rule will be a 10 point penalty! The selector should be on "SAFE" until your sights are on target and you have made a conscious decision to fire. This is S.O.P. for Military and Law Enforcement. Every credible instructor also teaches this. *Anyone found to have a complete disregard for this rule will be asked to leave the range.
*Each shooter will start out with a magazine loaded with 20 rounds in their rifle. They will also have an additional fully loaded magazine in a pouch or pocket for a mandatory "Tactical Reload" that will be required to be conducted from behind cover on the second VTAC barricade before moving from the second VTAC to re-engage the 3 IPSC cardboard targets on the move. Shooters will also be required to retain the first magazine in a pouch or pocket prior to moving. There will be additional procedural penalties for failing to conduct the Tac reload behind cover and not retaining the first magazine.

We will also be setting up a makeshift "Shoot house" on one of the shorter ranges. The layout of the stage will be finalized the day of the event as John & I are still woking out all of the details. It will basically be made up of several vision barriers with doorway sized openings at various intervals. Each doorway will have one or more cardboard IPSC shoot/No-shoot targets that need to be addressed.

Disclaimer & Requirements:
The Practical Rifle events at the Aurora Sportsman’s Club are not super high speed as we always need to take a wide range of skill levels into account, but the Practical Rifle event is not for shooters who have never fired a rifle before.
Shooters attending the ASC’s Practical Rifle events need to have a solid practical understanding of the fundamentals of shooting and safely manipulating their rifles: (loading/un-loading, trigger finger placement, muzzle discipline, etc.). Prior formal instruction on shooting a semi-automatic rifle is highly recommended.
*ALL shooters must bring their own eye & ear protection.
*ALL shooters must provide their own ammunition.
*NO steel core or “Armor piercing” ammunition will be allowed on stages that use steel targets (No exceptions).

Practical Rifle 4th Saturday of Each Month
The purpose of Practical Rifle is both competition and skills development. Shooters typically use modern magazine fed semi- automatic weapons such as AR-15s, AK-47 variants etc. Shooters challenge themselves by facing new tasks and situations each month.
This is an opportunity to get your rifle "off the bench" and test your marksmanship skills while developing new skills most can't practice on the range. Shooters should plan on firing about 100 rounds.
Shooters MUST be present and registered in time for the safety brief beginning at 9:30 am. If you arrive early, help setting up is always appreciated. Cost is $10 for ASC members, $20 non-members.
Practical Rifle events use the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) rules for our events.This is to ensure all participants are on the same page, the most important thing to know is the range commands.
