View Full Version : Wear Inside of Upper Receiver

Is this normal? The gun has over 250rds through it and a significant amount of dry-fire practice. I noticed there is a perfect line inside the top of the receiver (assuming from the charging handle). Also there are two shiny spots on the side of the receiver.

It's a Noveske upper, Mega charging handle, and Young BCG.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks! I have a couple other AR's to compare and they don't show any wear in those locations. This was my first build so I was concerned something might have been out of sorts.

Looks like your getting it broke in. Wear looks normal. Be sure to lube.

That length-wise wear mark straight down the middle is caused by the anti-rattle nub on the top of the front of the Charging Handle.

100% normal on the upper receiver.

Normal, but you need to run more oil.

Just so you know what you're looking at, the "two shiny spots" you talked about are on either side of the cam pin cutout in your upper. This recess is where the cam pin locks up when the bolt is in battery. The cam pin is steel and the upper is aluminum. So, you're going to see some wear around this area. It's completely normal.

At some point, after a few worn out barrels (many many many thousands of rounds), wear in this area can indicate that an upper is getting long in the tooth and could stand to be replaced. But, again, nothing to worry about.

Thanks again guys. And I keep it very oiled (10-8 Performance lube) all the time. It runs like a champ. I was just concerned because the other two AR's I have don't show wear like that.

I have a little over 600 rounds through my AR and just recently noticed the wear on the forward portion (barrel side) of the cam pin cut out.

I also have the wear line on the portion of the upper receiver where the charging handle is, but funny thing is that I didn't notice it before swapping out the stock charging handle for the VLTOR GF Mod 3.

Still quite new to AR's to I don't know what is normal wear, so good to hear that what you and I are seeing is normal.

Just get it more wet and you'll be fine.
