More info is needed.

Where and what will you be hunting, and which rifle are you putting it on?

The Leupold VXIII line has done well for a lot of people and reasonably priced.

Of course there are better and worse scopes out there but they offer a nice variation in combinations of reticles and such to suit anyones needs and budget (unless you think the scopes at Walmart are high end). If you have the budget Swaro/Zeiss/SB make the best.

But as to specifics like reticle and magnification it depends on where/what you are hunting.

I'm talking about a nikon pro staff 3-9-50 on a stag arms .223.

From the Maine North Woods (Moose) to Colorado (Elk) and Wyo (Deer), mounting it on a Browning X-Bolt .338.

I too use the Leupold VX-III, now VX-3 line of scopes for hunting. I would suggest the 3.5-10x40mm, they have a Custom Dial System (CDS) on one that you could get set for your ballistics too.

Bushnell 4200 2.5X10. Won't break the bank, and it won't break. Great field of view on the low end and plenty of magnification for cross canyon elk in CO. I love my Leupold but I don't feel like I got twice the scope for twice the money.

Look at the Minox 3x9x40 ZA3, cameraland NY has them for $400, its LW, very bright with Schott glass, tracks well, holds its zero, euro focus and based on comparisons brighter than say some of the products whose name begins with L. Lifetime warranty as well. I have had one for over a year on a Kimber Montana in 308, not touched the zero since I installed it.

I have this scope and concur. In fact, they honor a "no fault" warranty if you register the scope on their website.

I like this product. The outstanding craftsman ship was evident and the price to quality ratio was far an above other makers scopes. It is a scope, no silly add ons that dont work it is rugged and at amazon it was crazy affordable. Dont be fooled by the price you get way more for your money than you might think.
