It's that time of year.
COD: MW3 launches at midnight. Though, I wont have my copy till tomorrow afternoon.
Anyone else getting COD: MW3, or have many of you gone with BF3 this time around?

i wont be able to pick it up until friday. I will be on assuming my wife does not change my plans and have our baby boy before then :cool:
I have BF3 and am finally getting the hang of it but will probably end up playing a lot more MW3 than BF3, at least until the hacker's take over.

I'm still miffed about the 'elite' subscription model, the lack of modding or dedicated server support, and the general decline of the series. The original MW was one of the best games I've ever played, and I still run through it from time to time alongside classics like the original Half Life, Doom, Far Cry, etc. But MW2... it's only saving grace was co-op missions. And don't get me started on the Treyarch CoDs. World at War was weak at best, and Black Ops never really tugged at me like CoD2 or MW.
So I bought BF3, hoping for a return to the glory days of BF1942... and it crashes every 10 minutes.

Hopefully no real bugs turn up and when they do I hope they're dealt with quickly. It seems as though the M16 may be slightly over powered but what else is new. Right? There's a lot to this game and I look forward to discovering all the nuances and unlocking stuff.

I've been loving this game. Three hours into multiplayer with a K/D of 1.5 and a positive win loss for the first time since MW2 came out. I'm glad they didn't change much and the only things they did change were really positive changes like the new kill streak system.
XBOX gamers, my brother and I could use some good people to play with. We only play TDM right now but may head into HTDM if the camping doesn't suck to bad. Send me a friend request (RancidSumo) with M4C in the text if you want to play.

I picked it up last night and quite honestly it seems the same as MW2. The maps are terribly small and its just the same boring face shooting over and over and over and over again. I hope the single player campaign is decent, as I love a good story. I do lean more towards BF3 though for a various number of reasons. I feel like the only improvements they made so far with MW3 is the texture resolution seems higher. The models are very much low poly in comparison with other current games. I've also noticed that you don't really need to aim much. I have had much success spraying from the hip, that's not really a good thing and I don't make a consistent practice of doing that either.
I am getting screen freezes every game now ? strange not sure if its the game or disc ?

Enjoying the single player campaign so far. Much better than BF3 if I do say so. I don't do much multiplayer but I love the single player.

I love it. Just played through the first three levels.
Right until the level you play as Yuri.
I just hope the single player story line is longer than the 4.5-5 hours that MW2 had. That was just sad.
Have been playing single player for about 3 hours and deff enjoy it. A bit choppy but still fun.

Seems like all the skill is removed from the game now, its more of being "Right place, right time" now.
You run down a corridor or street until someone runs in front of you, and then shoot em.

Man I tried for a while but then it was down last night! True about quick scoping bitches. It was pretty cool though, these guys - all tagged as the same clan - executed a peel! Pretty nasty, even if they didn't mean to do it. Not often you see anything organized on there. Usually it's just sprint n shoot.

The maps have turned hardcore into nothing but a bunch of fags. It was always bad but usually playable, now it sucks. I'm gonna have to stick with regular TDM for now.

I'm really enjoying the support kill streaks.
Nothing like being the force multiplier for the whole team. I let the door kickers do their thing while I focus on intel, keeping the skies clear, and getting supplies for everyone. Its a very slick system.
wish the maps had a bit more selection all are small all are SMG stuff
would be nice to have some space and get a bit more tactical style play going vs run gun die run gun die
the spawns are all over the place and pop up behind you a lot

I picked up MW3 last night around 6pm and had finished the single player campaign around 12:30am!! I was a little disapointed that it was so quick. I know a lot games put most of their development into the multiplayer online, but c'mon they could have done better than this?

Also it looks like this might be it for the game....they killed off all the characters from the previous games in this one!! Grrr.......
On a different note....i'm not a big player. I play when something comes out that is worth playing IMO. So maybe 3-4 games a year.
Gears 3 was great....end of story for that series as well.
Dead Island I played for 2 freaking weeks. I felt like I needed to go to rehab after that game....jeez! I loved it though. That was a huge game to go through...the world is endless. I finished about 50% of the side quests so when it get's cold down here I'll probably give it another go around.

You must be playing on a 27" tube TV from 15yrs ago or have eye issues. I play on a 107" screen w/a HD projector and I can tell you at that size there's a very noticeable difference. The audio of this game is substantially better than MW2 as well.

im playing on a 37in Samsung 1080p set with a Boston soundbar and sub and it does have a better feel. it makes black ops feel like im playing Contra!

Damn...I thought my 'man room' had a nice setup. 107 is large. I agree that the menu and some other areas feel the same but gameplay is much better. The magnifier option for the EOtech is really cool.

The funny part is I have a 136" screen in a box just waiting to be put up for the last few years and I still haven't done it. My buddies all ask why not and I say 'Because I have a friggin 107" screen!' lol One of these days I'll get around to putting it up. I also have 7.2 surround with two 15" AV123 subs so I get some nice LRF as well. My theater gets SO much more use for CoD than movies anymore. It's where I spend my winters watching football and playing video games... mostly CoD. It's fun playing a FPS when you have to physically turn your entire head to check your periph. :ph34r:

Right now it's a HD1000u Mitsu and I haven't felt the need to upgrade it. I know there's better but to my eyes this thing looks fantastic so I haven't felt the need to upgrade it.
For audio I have the complete AV123 setup. I have the X-Voce center channel with upgraded internals, X-Statik's for mains, Omni's for rear mains and two MFW-15's for the subs powered by an Onkyo A/V receiver. Not a ton of money compared to what a lot of my buddies have but it works quite well for anything that I throw at it. I'm more of a bang for the buck kind of guy than a see how much money I can possibly throw at it all. :cool:

It's got some really good improvements over MW2 overall.
The weapons are freaking awesome.
The maps are a little claustrophobic. There should be more open maps. Generally, you can't see much further than 25 meters, and there are no high ground.

It's funny how well you can see Remington on the side of the ACR......I wonder how much that product placement cost?
also I love the sounds effects and the feel of the weapons in this version. The Ak's are freaking awsome....the sound difference between the 74, 47, and krink. The cyclic rate, the difference in sound of the different AR rifles.......they put a lot of time into getting the cyclic rate, sound, and feel of the weapons.....more so than any other FPS I've ever played.
someone metioned the lack of aiming skill needed. if you disable the auto aim it will make your life a lot more interesting!! with auto aim enabled you just have to get near the target and press your left trigger this then will cause your reticle to jump to the nearest target. without auto aim you have to sweep to the target and then stay on the target while your weapon wants to muzzle up. So try that and then get back to us!

its you can play with SMG and not take a hit but play with anything else a bit of a hit
again the balancing is a issue was host a few times and watching kill cam was ridiculous ! some did not even show I shot back yet I dumped half a mag in them ?
and regular balancing is often off cause of my good connection hope they fix that as I know some on forums are saying same thing
I do wish the maps had more space and were larger with areas like MW2 had open areas in between areas

they said a lot of companies were happy to have their names on things and said yeah put our real names on and such we like it
supposedly they brought them a bunch of stuff to copy and use and then took a bunch of the developers out shooting and such :)

when they were talking about the 6.8 the one lead designer said yeah great gun I have one in real life and love it :) that was kinda cool
so almost made it sound like the game company was happy to get more accurate product and did not charge for it ? would be curious to find out for sure though :)

No, I meant from the perspective of not playing video games at all... the gameplay does not seem any different from the two or so hours I have behind a TV screen playing MW2.
Sure, graphics will get better but why not make things a bit different? I've never understood the "rechargeable" health system in the COD series.
If I get shot once, the pain/damage from that is not going to go away in 20 seconds. It should affect you until you are killed and respawn.

I hate small maps and just exchanging kills ? would rather stand off a bit take good longer shots and play more tactical hard to do with these maps

I always switch to something else when I get a gun with it mounted. Looks cluttered/distracting as hell.
There needs to be an option where you can take off the optics if you want and just use irons.

You can run irons on any weapon you want. Nothing says you MUST run an optic. I prefer the red dot to anything else because the bezel is the smallest and makes for a better sight picture.

I used to play MW1 MP with the PKM with RDS and rack up some impressive kill counts. Nothing like over watch near their spawn point with one. Then get enough kills for the air strike right on their spawn location....lol. I got the "carpet bombing" thing doing that and I killed every single player on their side with one air strike.

That was actually one of the things I didn't like about MW2. The Russians invade, and they're mixing Tavors, AKs, FALs and Striker 12s in the same platoon? WTF? It would make sense if you had multiple bad guy nations a la Red Dawn, but this was supposed to be just Russians.

i think the eotech is a big improvement over MW2, the SP section of MW had a near perfect reticle but wasnt in the MP section. I do like the acog on MW3, it was busy and cluttered in the last iteration and didnt look anything like is was supposed to. it really irks me that an EMP kills the acog, it doesnt have a damn circuit board!

the balancing is so far off in the game I am hoping to find something else

Wait until you get the MP7. No need for rapid fire, just put a suppressor on it. Easily the best gun in the game for close quarters maps.

I own both games and this is what I think.
Battlefield is a completely different game. It takes more shots to kill your enemy(which to me seems more realistic especially if your target is rocking body armor). Bullet drop has to be considered for long distance shots, and the recoil/muzzle rise is much more realistic. To me it LOOKS a million times better than MW3, and you can blow holes in walls, and make structures collapse. I must stress that you don't expect your COD skills to translate between the two. Many of my COD friends bitch and whine when they play battlefield because they can't jump in and instantly go 30 and 2. It's not about K/D ratio it's about accomplishing an objective as a team. This is where the different classes come into play and the vehicles in the game as well. Most of the issues with this game were related to server problems early on and have now since been fixed.(I play on 360 don't know about PC or PS3). It's very easy for bad rumors to be spread about anything but I can honestly say I am 100% happy with BF3, as well as MW3.

Same here. I played FPS games competitively several years back and am now burned out on them.
Have been a long time fan of The Elder Scrolls series and TES 5: Skyrim is awesome.

I played a few hours of MP last night (on PS3) and noticed this too. I would unload 20 rounds at a guy 20ft away, and the kill cam would show my shots off by 2-3FT to one side or the other.
Its also stupid these little machine pistols kill people faster than belt feds. One time I started shoot a guy first, he aims at me, shoots for a second and I die even though I was pumping rounds into him as fast as it would allow. I know there are perks and whatnot put as you put it the "balance" is off. You shouldn't have to put rounds into people with a full size machine gun for 3 seconds for them to die, and they let of a quick zip with a pistol caliber SMG which kills you near instantly.
The best MP game of the series, to me, was the MW1. There were some tight maps but also a few which allowed more long range shooting. These maps on MW3 are so busy and compact they are all basically short range games. I like sniping quite a bit and I never found a map that really lends itself to that. I love the map in MW1 with the river, two bridges, and houses on either side. Id sit on the gas pump at the gas station and shoot over the top of it. Can tag people coming up the street on the right or across the bridge on the left. I also liked the hadji map with the road running through the middle, junked up cars on either side, and houses all around.

yea I had a 3-14 K/D ratio in BF3 once but I got 3rd place on my team, I was going around healing people and reviving them

yeah MW3 is pretty consuming, but the worst for me was Dead Island. Geez.......I must have spent 2 weeks on that game....every freakin night!!! It got to the point that I never wanted to see another video game again. I have to tell ya the zombie apocalypse rocked. Now if we can combine the two.....i mean really combine the two!! With the weapons, tanks, airsupport.....that would be freakin awsome!!

Nope. Not once with this or any disc. My Xbox sits flat and not upright and is well ventilated in a cool basement theater though. I've heard that standing your 360 upright can cause bad scratches on discs. Take it out and look at your disc.

I tried doing that twice with this game as a cure and it only gets 33% of the way, then I get the error again.
I'm going to bring it back and see if I can exchange it for another disc. Searching on the Internet seems to have it as a disc by disc basis. Problems happen when they put the disc in other's consoles when those guys don't have problems with their disc. Must have been a bad batch of discs.
PS3 major issues with freezing and disc error brought the disc back no issues since :)

Drove the 11 miles to town in a blizzard to return the disc and get a new one. Works fine and I downloaded it to the hard drive. I think it's cured. Whew!
The one thing that really bugs me about the COD:MW series is that adding a suppressor reduces the damage/range. They need to change that. That and I should not see the FSB when looking down the sights on the M16.
ETA: For classes, I've got four locked in and the 5th is my test class for new weapons I get.
1: M4 with grenade launcher, ACOG Delta reticle, P99, Semtex, Concussion, Slight of Hand, Quickdraw, Stalker
2: CM901, ACOG Delta reticle, Kick, FMG9 suppressed, Semtex, Flash, Slight of Hand, Hardline, Marksman
3: L118A, Kick, ACOG, FMG9 Akimbo, Frag, Concussion, Slight of Hand, Assassin, Marksman
4: Barrett suppressed, Kick, P99, Frag, Flash, Blind Eye, Assassin, Marksman
5: test class (currently SPAS and Skorpion)
Mostly I use one of the sniper classes. I have one suppressed with standard magnified scope and the other with an ACOG. I'm more aggressive with the ACOG sniper than with the Barrett. The Barrett is a scout/sniper role where I overwatch and engage when targets present themselves. The ACOG sniper is a spot and stalk role with a mix of creeping around for the enemy but also engaging into firefights from flanking positions.
I love the Delta (chevron) reticle on the ACOG. It's perfect for this game. The only reason I have the M4 setup like I do is I think it just looks neat. The grenade launcher (aka Noob Tube) is wonderful for those campers that like to bunch up in corners. The CM901 is my "pissed off" weapon when I need to lay down some hurt on someone.
I mostly play Team Deathmatch and Domination.
The reason they lower the range/damage when you add a suppressor is for balance, not to mimic real life. Video games are always a delicate balance act to not make something more or less powerful than the next. If there was no downside then everyone would run suppressors. Instead they have to make it a decision since you get a pro but it comes with a con. Most of the accessories are like this.
I see you added some more information since I first read your post so I'll just add to what I just posted that I think it's funny when I read what one person uses or hates/likes and it makes me realize how unique each person's experience is with this game which is what I think truly makes it great. I personally can't stand the ACOG or the EOTech in the game because their bezel is too thick and I tend to run and gun more so I'm constantly engaging one target then transitioning to another target and that added thickness makes my job that much more difficult. I use a red dot and no fancy reticules... just a red dot and that's the way I like it. I also like how Infinity Ward puts more emphasis on the actual weapons and their names and what not where you have an M4 and an M16 whereas in Black Ops I ran the 'Commando' which I always thought was lame. You also use different weapons as I and I'm sure have different tactics but in the end we both equally enjoy the game. Just a moment of recognition I guess on the CoD franchise and what a great job they've done with the game. :dirol:

The IMS is deadly and handy some games
Usually get around 15+ kills about 3 deaths
The rest of the clan about the same so other side tends to leave after one game with us :) and only gets about 2500 points tops
On my own depends on the lag but if I am not lagging avg 15-20 kills 3 deaths depending on maps sometimes super tight maps might be 2:1 ratio
Best games yesterday a few in the low 30s with about 4 or so deaths but died 8 in one game :)
If lagging flip that score and hope for a new host next game :)
But if I am the host or get overdone balance I get no kills none zero and watching the kill cam is stupid off balance they need to fix this ASAP so now when I get killed 3 or more times and know I got good shots off I leave and often find I was the host
Still think the maps are way to small but fun for now :)

We've got a few PS3's and xbox's on board now. Madden and 12 and CODMW3 are about all anyone ever plays, so we generally get down on COD's Survival mode or CO-Op play. Its so much better than Black Ops, but I still think BF3 has the edge on multiplayer (granted, I havent played COD online yet, damn Navy, get us some Wifi).

I run and gun too with the FA weapons, but most of my shooting is done at longer range because I see them before they see me. If they're close, I'll just cut them. I agree with you on the bezel thickness. Way over-done.

most of the time I run iron sites but running a red dot for a bit till I get extended mags :) rely on the perks as bonus to watch my back ? figure toward the end I just watch my back a bit more if I get those teams that do the last bit is all EMP and stealth runs the other thing is have people you can play with that won't let them get than many kills :) deny them !!!!
I just figure that whatever is in the game is fair play so I just try to play where I don't really rely on any one thing :) and when I hear the 10 year old squeaky voice kids cussing at me I just laugh :)

Yea but Bellmnt, then you get a jerk like me who runs Blind Eye Pro, Assassin Pro and Stalker Pro with a Suppressor and M203.... Ur claymore won't kill me and I blast ya with full auto suppressed or tube you lol. I REALLY like the M4 Irons, if I run a optic it's the hybrid sights.

I always cover when I can. I'll set a claymore to catch their back if they don't have one set, at least. I might set myself up for overwatch to cover a few entrance points for flanking by the enemy.
Biggest peeve is not covering for teammates when they are going for packages or manning a controlled kill streak perk, like a chopper gunner, predator missile, etc. Cover the guy or toss a claymore in front to ward of the knife kills.

I use it. I think the entire list of weapons are very close to the real deal. Someone really did their homework down to the LR20 mags.
I caught one little goof though. In the main menu of the Multiplayer section, the guy with the M4 in the background has a Aimpoint on his Rifle..... soooooo where is said Aimpoint in the game. Same with if you use Elite(I use the free version is all), it lists Leupolds HAMR optic as one of the optics you can get, but its not in the game ANYWHERE.

i have the HAMR on my mp5. It replaces the eotech/magnifier for the sub guns.....and the FAMAS, I do believe.
I dont know about you, but the craptacular BSA lookin' optic has me peaved, COD4 had an Aimpoint in the campaign, but not in the MP section. Then MW2 gave us a fastfire! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!

I posted about this before. I lay into a chump with a good burst from a belt fed 308, the dude turns and kills me with a quick burst from a machine pistol even though Im laying into him the entire time with a ****in belt fed machine gun. :rolleyes:

At least in MW1 my PKM puts these jack offs down like stacking cord wood. I guess whoever designed MW3 said a belt fed should allow people time to run around, turn, and fire a little pocket pistol killing people with 1-2 shots.

Check the kill screen after words, I have had the same thing happen more than a few times.
I empty half a magazine from a SCAR-L into a guy and die from a SMG burst. I watch the kill screen/replay and see that according to the guy who killed me, I did not even fire off a shot. :shout:

This past weekend I played split screen with my cousin's fiance who was a Cap in the Army and two tours in Iraq... I felt like a douche stabbing him in the back repeatedly... he does not play video games.
i have the HAMR on my mp5. It replaces the eotech/magnifier for the sub guns.....and the FAMAS, I do believe.
I dont know about you, but the craptacular BSA lookin' optic has me peaved, COD4 had an Aimpoint in the campaign, but not in the MP section. Then MW2 gave us a fastfire! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!
Prolly why I haven't found it cause all I use are the assault rifles. M4 and Scar are my favs. Running the POS Red dot and Masterkey in one class, Hybrid Sights and heartbeat sensor in another, all on my M4. Do have a M4 class of suppressor and noob tube, for when I repeadly get tubed.....
I only play Hardcore TDM, so getting kills isn't as hard. I HATE REGULAR TDM. I use support strike package too. UAV, Remote Sentry, Stealth Bomber. Get your Stealth, drop it, then use the remote sentry to finish it out, and I put Bounching Betty's under my turrets, so if they get destroyed, so does the other person ;-)

Yeah, I tried that. Ended up mixing up the two and demolished my good controller. :suicide:
Then I started buying the corded controllers because they are $10 cheaper than the wireless. I forgot it was corded and got up to go grab another beer during Black Ops and heard a crash behind me. I pulled the Xbox off the shelf and it scratched my disc to hell. :suicide:
I'm getting a bit better at my nerd rage and try to back out of games that piss me off. I'll duck back into the campaign mode to cool off before returning to multiplayer.

Oh, I see... you were talking about the CM901. Since Colt also makes an M4 and I said M4 specifically in my previous post that's why I was confused. There's an M4 too & as I recall it does it on that too. I used that rifle a bit when I first got the game but don't any longer so I can't recall for sure. It might only be on the CM901 but I know I noticed it on something.

Not slapstick by any means. I'm a pretty nice guy in real life, but when it comes down to gaming, I'm a completely different person; borderline a-hole.
One of my favorite things to do is start off a match and kill one person. Then that's my target the whole game session. That one person. I don't care how many times I die, I just want to harass and kill that person as much as possible and mess with them to the point they can't function as a soldier. First person I see, I kill them, then own them the rest of the game. I love it.

I am ashamed as to how often I find myself playing this game. I only own 2 games for my PS3, MW3 and GT5. GT5 is, in my opinion, the greatest driving simulator ever released. Similarly, I am damn impressed with MW3.

Nope, not yet. I plan to play through the campaign mode when the servers crash in less than a month during Christmas. I thought I might play the other modes more but haven't touched anything but Multi-player since that is like crack to me.

Some missions go by time, and then you start trying to go over your personall best.
On top of that, when you look at the different missions, it shows YOUR best and your FRIENDS best, so that really starts making it competitive.
Some are on time, some are for stars...and they are fricken HARD!
You play easy, regular, hard and insane.
It gets pretty crazy.
You level up pretty fast and have to unlock guns and gear.
After the first 3 waves, you unlock weapons (first wave)
Equipment (2nd wave)
Air support (3rd)
They are in the form of crates, placed in different locations around your map...thats where part of your strategy comes in.
Oh and you can buy a Delta Team or a riot shield team to come help you out!!!

The multiplayer is just so damn good it is hard to resist, but I will try the spec-ops missions.
I too used get angry and break controllers. I have gotten better (I try to remember it is just software and is prone to flaws). Watching the kill-cams is the worst thing you can do.
Keep this in mind when some guy drills you in 200 milliseconds or less with a sniper rifle with an ACOG on top from across the map, or is like an 8th Prestige...more than likely they don't even know what a boobie feel like hahahahaha.

I usually play after the kids and wife are in bed. Im a night owl so I usually get a few hours at night to do whatever.
Reminds me in 2004 my squad was playing Halo in our "room" and it was some map with a ledge looking down on a corridor. I see two dudes fighting down there so i tossed a grenade, and killed them both. The 3rd guy comes peeping around the corner trying to snipe one of them. Toss a grenade at him and get that one. I toss another one around a corner and get a 4th kill. One of the 1st two I killed respawned right there. It flashed across the screen "quadruple kill!". One of the guys playing, an E5 team leader ripped the controller out of my hand and chucked it into the wall. LMAO. Brings back funny memories. Everybody was laughing so hard we barely finished the game.

I was playing hardcore domination in Bakaara today, using the EOTech/magnifier combo on my CM901, and popped a guy four times from across the big courtyard with the burning chopper. He ran round a corner, then popped back out in a jump and one-shotted me with an MP7 from across the map while in mid-air.
The bastard then proceeded to run roughshod over the map, racking up a 48-2 record firing that MP7 from the hip. He would jump around corners firing, and score multiple headshots on long-range targets. Things like this make CoD no fun anymore.

I agree. I hated Black Ops for this. I played the game maybe 6 times total and was so frustrated from shit like this that I never played it again. So far MW3 seems not that bad. Some observations from a week of game play:
The killstreak perks are just wicked. The Predator strikes, and holy crap the AC-130 are really cool.
I am impressed with the weapons, but saddened by the lack of AKs. I would have like to see the AKS-74U again, and maybe an AK-104 or AK-105. Oh well. Maybe Izhmash couldn't afford the product placement lol.
I seem to heavily favor the assault rifles, especially the CM901 with the EOTech/Mag, and the SCAR with just EOTech.
The ACOG is useless as far as I am concerned.
The M203 was so clutch in MW2 but now it is weak and nearly useless in MW3. I am still shit hot with it though which is nice.
The LMGs I have tried so far have sucked. I was a fan of the RPK from MW2, so maybe I need to give them a better chance.

I played a few hours of MP last night (on PS3) and noticed this too. I would unload 20 rounds at a guy 20ft away, and the kill cam would show my shots off by 2-3FT to one side or the other.
Its also stupid these little machine pistols kill people faster than belt feds. One time I started shoot a guy first, he aims at me, shoots for a second and I die even though I was pumping rounds into him as fast as it would allow. I know there are perks and whatnot put as you put it the "balance" is off. You shouldn't have to put rounds into people with a full size machine gun for 3 seconds for them to die, and they let of a quick zip with a pistol caliber SMG which kills you near instantly.
The best MP game of the series, to me, was the MW1. There were some tight maps but also a few which allowed more long range shooting. These maps on MW3 are so busy and compact they are all basically short range games. I like sniping quite a bit and I never found a map that really lends itself to that. I love the map in MW1 with the river, two bridges, and houses on either side. Id sit on the gas pump at the gas station and shoot over the top of it. Can tag people coming up the street on the right or across the bridge on the left. I also liked the hadji map with the road running through the middle, junked up cars on either side, and houses all around.
I bought this game 2 weeks ago but havent played it yet....With that said, I also love to snipe. I've been very successful sniping on 75% of the maps in WaW, MW2 and Black Ops. I didnt snipe so much on the first MW as I was just learning how to play online.
From what i'm reading it seems this game lends nothing to the sniper and is basically set up for "kids" to run around aimlessly with "lightweight" stabbing you and outrunning your bullets. If thats the case it's a deal breaker for me and I dont feel so bad for not getting a chance to play it. I hate small maps.

I've got three sniper classes I run in multiplayer. One has a magnified scope (the BMG), then the bolt rifle has an ACOG as does the RASS (Remington .308 AR). The variable scope takes a long time to unlock. I'm not there yet.
I like a long range traditional sniper and a short range "urban" marksman rifle, hence the ACOG scopes. If you have the skills of a gaming sniper, you can snipe in every environment. Adapt your weapon.

The maps really need to be bigger. I played for about an hour last night and at least 3/4ths of the time I get killed its within seconds of spawning. They are putting me right in front of people and I can't do anything about it. Spawn....run 10 steps and I get shot from behind.

I run and gun a lot and in my experience I would say most of the 'corner crouchers' are n00bs that are fearful to run anywhere in fear of running the wrong way. I have noticed slightly more of this though in MW3 than the previous versions. Might just be because we had a couple games last night in particular that had a higher number of them. In all instances it was low ranked people that weren't very good though.
As to maps; I really do like the maps of this version. I'm not a sniper however and like to run and gun a lot more. Keeps the game more interesting for me. I actually miss some of the super close CQB style maps of previous versions but I'm adjusting. There's also no super long corridors that are unprotected yet they don't really feel like cover was purposely placed for the most part. Flows naturally IMHO. I also find that lots of times when I watch a kill cam it's a sniper quick scoping me so clearly snipers aren't having too hard of a time doing their thing. Overall I think the maps are really well balanced and while some have power locations they're not overpowering like in previous versions.

yeah that quick scoping is bullshit. I've never done that except for one time and it was an accident (it was pretty fun tho:p). I like to get in a spot that has a good view of a high-traffic area and pick people off. Then, like clock work they either spawn and run straight towards me and i kill them again or they try to come around the backside and i wont be in the exact location as before but very close and i'll snipe them again.
I love getting into a good sniper vs. sniper cat and mouse game but its very rare. The horrible lag is what forced me into sniping in the COD series anyway. I usually dont have a chance at CQB ranges. Just like BCMjunkie, i'lll get stabbed while emptying a mag into some1. On my screen they look to be 15 yards away when i drop from being stabbed.

There was talk before MW3 dropped that the devs experimented with requiring you to actually equip your knife before using it to eliminate the panic knife kills that a lot of people hate. I'm frustrated by it but not as much as some seem to be. The way I see it is it happens to me probably as many times as I get kills from it so it's a wash. Just annoying when you're on a good killstreak and you know you have someone around the corner who has no idea you're coming and as you get the jump on him he knifes instinctively and gets the kill. Oh well, part of the game I guess and to try to make it so you have to equip the knife probably takes more away from the game than it gives. Glad they decided to just keep it as is.

It just seems like the spawn points are really screwed up. Im talking about 2 seconds after spawning Im getting gunned down quite a bit.
I popped MW1 back in, and like it 100X better. I play sniper or PKM gunner depending on the map and generally am in the top 3. I guess my tactics just do not translate over. I hate run and gun shit where its more about who spots who first within 10ft than actually maneuvering on the enemy or finding a spot and defending it or over watching team mates advancing.
MW3 is like as soon as you spawn there are going to be enemy all over the place right off the bat. It happens in MW1 but the spawn locations shift. Sometimes you get caught right before the shift but thats maybe 1 in 5 times. MW3 is 9/10 times you are spawned so close to the "action" I keep getting cut down before I can do anything.

on a map like bootleg, i like to flash and semtex a room that is frequently camped. i find myself slicing the pie on a blind corner and eyeballing tracers! I also have a class setup just for Dome:

You're missing out on a BIG part of this game. Sound and specifically team communication is vital to being successful at CoD games. To the point where we generally won't play with people who don't use mics because being able to call things out goes a long ways when you're playing solid teams. I also feel that I'm at a disadvantage because I don't use Turtle Beach headphones or similar. I have a pretty nice 5.2ch surround sound setup in my home theater which does pretty well but I still feel that some people are getting even better audio ques using headphone made specifically for gaming like Turtle Beach makes. I'm hoping I win a set from the Mountain Dew/Doritos Double XP game because I have quite a few entries on that prize so wish me luck! :dance3:

I've been using it almost exclusively since I unlocked it the first time. It's the new Type 95. lol

I think I'm picking up what you're putting down. To be honest I had a hard time running the Type 95 because I don't like the way it looks. I hate it in games like this where the ugly gun works the best because I generally like to use guns I own in real life or the cool looking guns. Eesh... stupid Type 95. :p

I disagree & I'm as big of a CoD fan as you'll find. The Elite thing has been horribly mismanaged since it came out. Servers down, lost information & still no mobile app & no ETA a month later. So far I see no real reason to pay for the service & I'll continue to pay for my DLC map packs w/heavily discounted M$ points as they come out. I use the Elite website here & there but no way would I pay $40 for a service that hasn't worked & even when it does doesn't really offer you much for your money.

I was excited for a game developer to add something new and tie in internet and mobile devices but they've dropped the ball horribly on this one and I think it's not only going to be difficult for them to recover but for future such ventures to be successful unless they do something extraordinary. I'm still frustrated you can't check your stats and others game stats online easily. This is something we could do 8yrs ago with Halo so why can't we now? Not only should we still be able to do what we did then but it should be even more comprehensive by now. I also wish we were still able to see what the score & time was of the games our friends are playing. This is something that was available in Rainbow Six Vegas (again, 5-6yrs ago) yet not today. Very handy for knowing if you should hold up your lobby to wait for a buddy or not depending on how close they are to being done. Just seems that instead of effing up 'ground breaking' stuff they should really focus on the simple things and making what they have stable.

It depends on your weapon choices, perks and tactics. I've found that an MP7 suppressed with Assassin & Blind Eye works quite well. I use these and run a path back and forth around the buildings mostly and will sometimes swing around the A flag side through the tunnel and then head back around the other way w/o going down the B flag valley because that's just a grenade death trap. Stick with the buildings and dart from cover to cover and try not to be exposed in long corridors or areas viewable from higher areas.
To me this map isn't any different than any other map. Unless you're playing Domination stay away from the B flag area.

Ha, ha, funny. I do a pretty decent job most of the time. I usually play TDM but am playing more Domination lately. Usually finish with a 4:1 kill to death ratio.
I've got 3 sniper classes, plus an M4 and M14 suppressed.
For whatever reason I can do really well on all the other maps but when I get to that one, I'm at a loss every time.
Question for all you MW3 experts...
I'm new to the multiplayer aspect of the franchise, so I suck and end up spending a lot of time watching the killcam to see what the hell happened. I've noticed a lot of times the guys with the scopes don't even get me anywhere near their crosshairs, but I still end up dead. Is it setup so that when using one of the sniper rifles, as long as you can see the person it results in an automatic kill?

Ive talked to other people playing MW3 MP and there are a lot of anomalies along with lag resulting in kills that are 'unexplained'. Last night I was playing with a few board members and I got the "last kill". In the replay it showed the dude shoot me in the back. During the game when i did get killed I did see the dude and I got off a few shots at least before I died.
There are other issues Ive noticed, too, like getting killed out of blue from a window. On my screen the window was empty when I saw it but on the replay the guy was standing there for a couple seconds before he started shooting. Can't react to 'targets' if they don't show up on my TV.
Also noticed it seems like weapon choice favors machine pistols than long guns or shotguns. The shotguns you have to be almost point blank. One time I got killed I had an AA12 and unloaded an entire mag on a guy 'across the room' distance and it didn't even wound him. He turned and gunned me down with a quick pistol burst. On the replay it showed shotgun rounds dead center on him from me.
With MW1 I generally player sniper mode so my kill count isn't always the highest but I can generally get 4:1 KD ration when I try or even better. Ive had 50+ kills with less than 5 deaths before. MW3 I cannot get an edge on anything since its always fast paced run and gun. I enjoy MW1 for being able to find spots to take people out and actually use the map to form a strategy. MW3 is as soon as you spawn you need to find cover and hide because they probably spawned you 20ft from an enemy. :rolleyes:

its called quick scoping if you google it lots of info on it :)
kinda sucks some call it a glitch some say its their on purpose ?
I hate it but can usually avoid it or kill them more then they get me
some of this is the balancing I hate hate hate its setup so bad
basically if you have a good connection they try to bring you down a bit so others have a chance ? to bad they dont know how to balance that well and we get this issue
if you are host its really bad next time it is happening drop out see if you were host or not ? you can tell cause it will start trying to find a new server right away !
