View Full Version : Anyone have S&B 1-8 update?
Been looking around for updates on the expected release on their 1-8 short dot. Anyone have info to share? There was word that it "may" come out in November. Otherwise, January.... Hope they are on schedule.
Last I heard was late November, but take that for what its worth. I also heard August 2010....
patience is a virtue i was not blessed with! :D Unless I'm blind, I can't find this scope on the official S&B website. What's with that?
My backup is the z6i w/brt, but it seems like they had a price INCREASE. I thought these could be had for $2100?
It's on the German website. If there are any descrepencies between the English and German sites, the German one is the one to bet on.
Just google - Schmidt bender German - and you'll get the link.

Its been on there most of this year at least.
I too am waiting on this scope. I sold my other SB's to get this one. Guess I could have waited for a while but thats ok.
I think I'm like 3rd order in the stack at SWFA. I'm still wanting it, but I've almost forgotten that i ordered the damn thing in the first place.

The good news is the scope will come with a free copy of MDs Art of the Precision Rifle DVD set hand delivered by a male-friendly lesbian.

That was only available for pre-orderers.

I just try not to think about it and when they're out they're out. Like Magpul stuff it doesn't do any good to speculate and get all impatient. I would rather wait and have them turn out the best product they can than sell something that doesn't live up to the hype and expectations.
I agree...I was LOLing about the male friendly lesbian, didn't know such creatures existed in the wild:D
I think this time part of the delay has to do with the PSR contract.
I'm almost starting to think for my OBR I may spring for a premiere reticle 14x scope, and just get the 1-8 for a PredatAR 7.62.
Schmidt & Bender must have seen that episode of South Park where Cartman owns the amusement park.

14X? Do they have a 1-4X?
Delays just gives me more time to save money. I'm more interested in the new S&B 3-20(?).

I was referring to a 14x+ power scope. 8x is a LITTLE low for my needs since my OBR has gone from battle rifle to precision rifle in terms of applications.

My Premier was a winner on the LMT MWS for that role. I got the Mil-dot, which I think is appropriate for the role. The other reticle, XR?, I think goes well in a 5-25 scope.
I think the Premier 3-15 scope is a killer used deal. You can find them on THe hide for $2000-2100, sometimes for $1900 for ST or odd models.
No love for the PR 1-8 vs S&B? I wish they would get out and push it more and get more information out about it???
The PR is friggin HUGE compared to the S&B. Only knock against it, and S&B has the experience with short dots that PR is only now really getting in to.
Two of the biggest things that give me pause with the 1-8x are the small exit pupil and weight. Granted, it gives you a lot for its mass, but the 1-4x is already a beast. Its only a few ounces heavier, but on the top rail of your upper you tend to notice.
Maybe when it gets released in fall of 2013 I'll see what the reviews say. ;)
I got an email from the S&B rep and they said that it is looking good for mid FEB '12.

Yes, info straight from the factory is first quarter 2012.
They told me December-ish less than a few weeks ago.
I wouldn't put too many eggs in that basket.

FWIW Premier has redesigned their 1-8x. It is almost an inch shorter, lower profile, and lighter: http://opticstalk.com/new-18x24-premier-heritage_topic30115.html

Excellent. I'm still holding out for the S&B though, but Feb aint that far off.

Damn. Last I heard from Mark (August) was a Nov/Dec 2011 release. If what you heard is the new sliding target, then I'm happy I made the decision to go with the Swarovski Z6i 1-6.
I'm thinking the imminent release will be S&Bs big news at SHOT.
It is interesting that Premier is positioning itself between S&B and Leupold with a retail price of $3200.
Although I've not laid hands on the Premier, I suspect that I'll prefer it's turrets over the S&B. This alone would not be enough to spend the extra $700. It will be interesting to see how the Premier reticle lines hold up at low magnification. The S&B's are rather faint under 3X which is not a big deal for me since I'll be using the flash dot at those magnifications.
I suspect the Leupold will come down in price when the others hit the market.

And hopefully up in features.
What features would you like to see?
