So during a routine checking over of my rifle that i do after every 500 rounds i noticed that the roll pin that connects the bolt catch to the lower was walking itself out. It was far enough in to keep the the lever to remain in/on the lower. I used punch and small brass hammer and put in back in place. My question is how to i prevent this from happening again. Info on the lower, standard m&p 15 lower,Magpul bad lever(im guessing this is what is causing the problem),redi mag.

I would just replace the roll pin with a new one and see if it happens again.

The BAD lever should have nothing to do with it......check with a local shop and see if they have a spare LPK that they use for misc stuff and grab a new one like the guy above said. If you do it your self, make sure the plunger and spring stay intact.....

their is one right up the road from me from where i live now (just moved to nashville tn) and ive been most to most of the shops in the area and they dont have any thing to fix or replace parts for a ar-15(most only sell bushy's and swear they are the best) and not to mention i would refuse to buy any thing from the closest place near me. I guess ill just have to wait for the next gun show for me to try and find a replacement roll pin.

Is this a factory lower or pieced together? Have you ever taken out the roll pin? If so, did you reuse the roll pin or install a new one?

Standard bolt catch roll pin size is

7/16" (0.437) long
3/32" (0.093) diameter

You can get these at a hardware store for less than $.20.
