I have a chance to pickup up a Kimber 8400 Advanced Tactical in 308, it has about 100 rounds through it, the price is excellent compared to new, I can't seem to find out much about them though, and what I do is split between excellent or crappy. This one is about 3 or 4 years old, and has been in a safe since it was bought, they guy told me he sighted it in, but never shot it as he likes his 700 better.

I have heard they are a nice rifle but has no aftermarket support.

I'd go with a Rem700 or Savage just for the available parts. You can start with a basic rifle and add whatever you want.

Go with a basic Rem 700 and build up from there.

I have a couple built up 700's, I just wondered about it, the guy has a gotta sell it today price, I had kinda thought of passing, now I will for sure. I read on some reviews, their either very accurate, or not, nothing in between.

Accurate is one thing... but a rifle is often a heavy investment. I like rifles with lots of aftermarket options and support.

I say shoot it see if you like it...
If it shoots to your liking and standard then why not.
Or you can buy a Rem and throw cash at to your hearts content.

Humm can you even get bottom metal for this rifle? Or triggers?

Edit, looks like CDI makes DMB for it.

I've never shot one but they look good on paper. Guaranteed .5" Groups and tight tolerances. I say buy it if you like it.

I guess it's not a guarantee so to speak but they do say that it must shoot .5 or better before it leaves the factory.

When a company such as Hill Country Rifles makes this type of statement...

Due to inconsistent results, we no longer service Kimber rifles. This is not intended as a negative statement about Kimber products. It is merely a decision based on the inconsistent results our Accurizing service has on these rifles.

...well, it makes me somewhat cautious.

It could also mean that they can't improve the accuracy much as the tolerances are very small and the rifles are already bedded...

You will not find a smith that will advise getting one.

I'd rather have a Remington 5R and get a new stock if you don't like the factory HS precision one. These come with a threaded barrel.

The Kimber brings absolutely nothing to the table.

My Remington VS in .22-250 can do that.
