I'm working on my first build. So far I've got a stripped DMPS lower and a Bushmaster lower parts kit. I'm going to use it for plinking, home defense, or what ever situation comes along. I've found a LMT upper that I'm thinking about buying. Preferably, I want a 1/9 twist barrel. All the LMT barrels that I've seen available are 1/7 twist. Do they make 1/9? I thought 1/9 is better because it's more universal and you could fire more types of ammo. Is 1/7 twist better? Should I buy the LMT upper?

LMT does not make a 1/9 twist and why would you want a 1/9 twist??? The 1/7 will handle everything from 55gr to 77gr.

At carbine distances you should not see a differene if you buy a 1/7 insted of a 1/9.

Go with the LMT. It is of known, excellent quality.

I was surprised my 1/7 twist Colt barrel shot 45 gr WIN white box ammo very well, at least up to 100 yards. 1/9, 1/8 or 1/7 if it's a quality barrel I've found them to shoot 45-77 grain ammo, I think the key is quality more than twist rate.

I put a LMT 16" upper on lay away today. It was $460 with no bolt, carrier, or charging handle. Is that price about right, or too much???

I bought it from Quantico Arms

Remember that LMT uppers are pretty bare, so you will still need to pick up a Bolt Carrier Group (BCG), Charging Handle (CH), and possibly handguards.

The price seems about right.

Does LMT make their barrels, or does someone like Wilson or Shaw make them?
