I have two boys that are 7 & 9 years old. I am considering getting them both shotguns for Christmas. Right now, I am looking at the small .410/.22 single shot Rossi for my seven year old. This is on sale at Wal-Mart for $129 and seems like a good deal. I am not expecting great quality, but it is just his size and should be fun for him.

The other shotgun is a Mossberg 20 ga. 505 pump. Wal-Mart has this one for $219 and it seems like a great deal. I was wondering if anyone had experience with this gun? It fits my nine year old well and seems like a good step up for him.

Rem also has an 870 youth model 20g.

What the difference between the 505 Youth and a 500 Bantam or Super Bantam?

I have seen the Rem 870 Youth, but they are always around $300. This just seemed like a good deal on the Mossberg. All of the different youth Mossbergs are pretty much the same, just different sized stocks and barrels. They also have different colors like black, brown and a camo version.

yea the remingtons always seem to be more expensive than the mossbergs, there is another thread going on that very topic.

I would say for a first shotgun a 500 bantam(or super bantam) or 505 or whatever they are called would be a great choice. I love my 590.
