Ok I know there are some serious pig smokers here.

I'm tired of mucking about and my wife asked what I want for Xmas.

I want a super, high-end, remote, thermometer. One probe for meat temp and one for oven temp.

Recommendations?

i do mostly ribs, but use a small kingsford to monitor smoker temp.

if i get whiz bang stuff, i go to williams sonoma.

*if chase would just get off their butts and file my offer, i could get that all clad set and those wusthoff knives!

If you have an iPhone or iPad, the iGrill is a fantastic grilling tool.

Doc, I have been pleased with this one.

I can slide a probe into the brisket, and leave another laying out on the rack next to it. The remote alarm alerts me when it is done and delicious. A good thing, so I may remain inside the A/C sipping a beer, instead of waddling out in the Texas heat.

Or if you are of a mind to do a rack of ribs as well as a pork butt, it can accomodate.

Be sure and post pics of the edibles, kind sir. :D

Since money is virtually no object...

I wanted the remote so I could do whatever I wanted and not have to keep opening and closing the smoker.

Alton Brown uses this...

Thermoworks Two-Channel Thermocouple BBQ Thermometer With Alarm (http://spitjack.com/product/THERMOCOUPLE-ALARM-TW8060.html)

I don't know if it's overkill.

I've been using the Maverick products for some time. They are really good but the meat probes are sensitive and easily broken. The Thermoworks one looks good but are the chords long enoungh to feed through the top vent? I use a 22" Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker smoker and feed both chamber and meat probes through the top vent with good results.

This is a great all around website with a good buyers guide:

wow.. and i was just going to suggest the WEBER style 6438

I have an older one of these and used it many mnay times with great luck then found one @ a local yard sale of all place new still in the box for $10
and it's no longer new in the box as i smoke turkey's, briskets...ect
and i'm pretty anal about temps.

Maverick ET-73

end thread

Seriously the ET73 is a remote, dual probe(one for meat, one for chamber) thermo. I have been using one for a couple years and its pretty awesome. IF you mess up your probe's(trust me, you will when washing them) you can order new ones for pretty cheap. I have pulled the wires out of a few when cleaning them.

They have a couple of others like the ET732, but I dont have any experience with that one.

Yeah, I have one too and killed the meat probe in three uses. I never wash the chamber probe just to extend the life of it. I wonder if any of these others, like Thermoworks, come with probes that stand up to more abuse or if they are all just a limited life components that will inevitably fail. If they all fail somewhat routinely, the cheaper probes of the Mavrerick are a plus.
